     View Summary

In performance-based design, structural engineer needs convenient design formulae of response drift of an elasto-plastic structure. In the study, we consider the design formulae in case of total input energy to a structure is constant and the equivalent reputation number is variable. The verifications of equivalent linearized models and elasto-plastic models in the study are analysed considering the level of seismic design load of the Building Standard Law of Japan.

<p>In order to use urban space effectively in Transit-Oriented Development (TOD), over-track buildings (built over railways), are becoming increasingly popular in Japan. From a construction and structural design point of view, the basement structure just beneath railways generally cannot be built while railway operations continue (interruption to operations is not permitted, In general).</p><p>This paper presents the structural design of a mid-story isolated high-rise building constructed over railways in Ikebukuro, Tokyo. The paper shows, not only the philosophy of the system, but also the structural design, full-scale experiments, and evaluation of the performance in each structural element. The authors believe that such a structural design will be one of the effective solutions to the over-track building.</p>

     View Summary

Japan is one of the earthquake-prone countries, and has suffered from various earthquakes such as the Great East Japan Earthquake in 2011. Therefore, high seismic performance for buildings has been required, and seismic technologies have been actively studied in Japan. Seismic isolation system that isolates a superstructure from the ground is one of the effective earthquake-resistant technologies. The number of seismic isolated structure is overwhelmingly small compared with the ordinary earthquake-resistant structure, though it has increased after the Kobe Earthquake in 1995. Thus, in order to comprehend actual behavior of isolated structures during earthquakes and to improve seismic safety, it is important to obtain seismic records of the structures. Therefore this study dealt with seismic records of isolated structure that is a building of Tokyo Denki University and construction of an analytical model of the isolated structure based on the seismic records. The seismic record was started from December 2011. In this paper, relationships between the intensity of the seismic ground motion and the natural frequency of the building were investigated by using observed seismic records. In addition, an analytical model for seismic response analysis was constructed by considering the relationships. After that, reproducibility of the analytical model was evaluated by comparison between seismic records and analytical results by using the analytical model.

Japan is the earthquake-prone country. Therefore, structures in Japan require high safety. Base-isolated system satisfies that conditions, so the number of Base-isolated structure shows a tendency to increase. Nevertheless, the number of Base-isolated structure is few in number by comparison with the aseismic structure. Consequently, seismic records of base-isolated structure are insufficient in quantity. Due to reason like this, seismometers are installed in base-isolated structure. In addition, seismic records using seismometers are carried out positively. Seismic records are used for the calculation of structure vibrational properties. Structure vibrational properties are very important in performing the validity examination of the design. Furthermore, These parameters can also be applied to analytical model that replays seismic behavior. It is available for various things such as indication of evacuations, and examination of repair that reproduce seismic behavior of the building. In this paper, we handle a base-isolated structure that continues seismic records. First, we calculated both primary natural frequencies and spectrum intensity by using seismic records of target buildings. Next, we constructed an analytical model that can be changed building stiffness depend on primary natural frequencies and spectrum intensity. Then, using that model carried out earthquake response analysis. Consequently, analysis results that are close to seismic records are obtained.

Japan is the earthquake-prone. Therefore, structures require high safety. Base-isolated system satisfies the conditions. However, the record of actual behavior is few in number. Instead of that, the structure is modeled to expect behavior during an earthquake. Thus, it is important to build high precision model. In this paper, base-isolated structure which continuing the seismic record is handled. The vibrational model is built in order to reproduce the actual seismic behavior. Based on the drawing and documents, seismic mass and stiffness are calculated. By using these physically parameters, mass point vibrational model with 15 degree of freedom is built. Using the ground motion observed in that structure, natural frequency is determined by calculating transfer function of the seismic record and vibration model. In addition, response acceleration waveform that calculate seismic response analysis for using vibrational model are compared to seismic record. According to the result, vibrational model has variability of maximum acceleration, large amplitude ratio and low primary natural frequency than seismic observations. In addition, second primary natural frequency is not reproduced. Specifically, it is unable to represent in X direction. Nevertheless, reproducibility of acceleration waveform is high. It is seen conspicuously in Y direction. Therefore, review the damping and effect of second natural frequency is necessary.

In structural design, for the purpose of understanding building performance under seismic motion, it is important to clarify the system of seismic input to a building. In this paper, it is shown an evaluation of soil amplification and soil-structure interaction (In this paper, it is equal to input loss) with seismic records on base-Isolated building. The evaluation is analyzed using seismic records and transfer functions on soil and building. In addition, the soil amplification function by the records is compared with theoretical one by 1-D Multi-Reflection Theory. At the same time, Input loss is compared with proposed expression by Harada et al.
