  • The Efficacy of a Procedure for Cognitive Restructuring of Abandonment Schemas in Individuals with Borderline Personality Features

    <p>In this study, we assessed the efficacy of a procedure for cognitive restructuring of abandonment schemas. A two-week intervention was conducted for individuals with borderline personality features. Results showed that the scores for abandonment schemas reduced for participants in the intervention group who were included in the procedure for cognitive restructuring, but not for those in the waiting list. However, no significant differences were observed in scores of borderline personality traits between the two groups. Future studies need to conduct lengthier interventions that enable the generalization of value of cognitive restructuring of abandonment schemas.</p>

  • Understanding Child-Rearing Anxiety of Mothers through a Metacognitive Therapy Model

    The objective of this paper was to examine how child-rearing anxiety of mothers is maintained through a model of metacognitive therapy (MCT). Based on the MCT model, we created a model that containing two processes: metacognitive beliefs about worry enhance worry, and worry enhances child-rearing anxiety. The respondents were 188 mothers whose children (from 3 years to 5 years of age) go to kindergarten or day-care center. The results of a path analysis showed that negative metacognitive beliefs had a strong positive effect on worry, and that worry had a moderately positive effect on child-rearing anxiety. However, worry had a mildly positive effect on child-rearing time which is a factor of child-rearing anxiety. The study therefore suggests that the maintenance process of child-rearing anxiety can be explained by the MCT model.

    This study reports on the development of the Young Women's Appearance-Related Negative Emotions Scale-State Version(YWANES-S) from the standpoint of cognitive-behavioral counseling. Three questionnaire surveys were conducted with female university students (n=165, 185, and 40). The YWANES-S was shown to be a 7-item unifactorial scale with high internal consistency. The scores on the YWANES-S were moderately associated with scales of trait body dissatisfaction, state self-esteem, and negative mood states. Construct validity was confirmed by individuals' differential reactivity to an appearance-related and a non-appearance-related imagery task. This study shows that the YWANES-S has substantial reliability and validity.

  • Development of the Perfectionistic Self-statements Inventory about Dieting in Female Adolescents and Investigation of its Reliability and Validity

    The present research investigated the characteristics of perfectionistic thoughts or self-statements of individuals who were dieting in order to develop a new scale, named the Perfectionistic Self-statements Inventory about Dieting (PSI-D). The reliability and validity of the PSI-D were also examined. In Study 1, a questionnaire consisting of 40 potential items generated from semi-structured interviews and an open-ended questionnaire survey was administered to 118 female university students who were on a strict diet. Factor analysis yielded four factors of the PSI-D: Persistence of High Standards, Self-Criticism about Failure, Respect for Striving, and Strict Self-Restraint. Sufficient internal consistency for the whole scale and each subscale was established. In Study 2, a test battery of the PSI-D and other scales was administered to two samples of female university students (n=148 and 140). The results demonstrated sufficient validity of the PSI-D. The authors discussed the usefulness of the PSI-D based on the results.

    Objectives : The present research examined causal mechanisms of body dissatisfaction, binge eating, and dieting behaviors in female university students from the standpoint of cognitive-behavioral counseling. In Study 1, a questionnaire survey was conducted with 258 female students. Results showed that Self-Evaluative Salience (SES) of appearance schemas and Safety Beliefs and Body Control (SBBC) of body checking cognitions influenced body dissatisfaction, binge eating, and dieting behaviors. Study 2 experimentally examined if SES and SBBC caused body dissatisfaction using 29 female students with the average or higher SES and SBBC scores as participants. They were assigned to an SES, SBBC, or non-activation (NA) condition. Results demonstrated a significant interaction of the condition and the period for negative appearance-related thoughts (ART; F(2,26)=6.55, p<.01). Bonferroni post hoc test revealed a significant increase in the negative ART for the SES and SBBC groups but not for the NA group (p<.01,p<.05, respectively). The effect sizes for the scales to measure dissatisfaction with one's face and entire body were substantial, though they were small. This research provides evidence that SES and SBBC are part of the causal factors of body dissatisfaction, binge eating, and dieting behaviors.

The results showed that the Japanese version of the ASI-R (JASI-R) consists of two factors: Self-Evaluative Salience (SES) and Motivational Salience (MS). The reliability and concurrent validity of the JASI-R were demonstrated. An analysis of gender differences revealed that women reported more self-evaluative and motivational investment in their appearance than men. The SES and MS factors had moderate to weak positive relationships with the subscales of body checking cognitions. The findings suggest that appearance schemas and body checking cognitions are relatively distinct concepts.

    The purpose of this review was to propose the possibilities of understanding and cognitive-behavioral intervention for body dissatisfaction in healthy individuals. No agreement was reached on a definition of body dissatisfaction, and there were few intervention studies based on the research findings in the body dissatisfaction mechanism. In addition, little emphasis was placed on the maintenance and promotion of health and the prevention of distress or mental disorders in healthy individuals. In this review, the authors overviewed the literature inside and outside of Japan on the issues of the definition, the mechanism of the development and maintenance, and cognitive-behavioral intervention for body dissatisfaction, and proposed the future possibilities of understanding and cognitive-behavioral intervention for body dissatisfaction in healthy individuals. The findings suggest that a new intervention should focus on one's psychological investment in his or her physical appearance and that it is desirable to reduce negative emotions about one's appearance even though negative evaluations of his or her appearance remain unchanged. It is needed to develop an intervention that helps individuals accept the imperfections of their body while increasing their awareness of various aspects of their body and life.

    Background & Objectives: Teasdale and colleagues (e.g., Teasdale et al., 2002) refer to the process of experiencing negative thoughts and feelings within a decentered perspective as 'metacognitive awareness' and suggested it reduces the risk of a mild dysphoria escalating to major depression or a relapse. Moore et al. (1996) developed the Measure of Awareness and Coping in Autobiographical Memory to assess it, using a semi-structured interviewing method. The purpose of this study was to develop the Japanese Version of the Measure of Awareness in Autobiographical Memory (J-MAWARE) and to examine its reliability and validity. Method: 44 non-clinical college students with repetitively experiencing dysphoric mood were assessed by J-MAWARE we developed for this study and other related measures. Results: We confirmed satisfactory internal reliability and validity of the J-MAWARE. The interrater agreement was moderately satisfactory. Conclusion: It was confirmed that the J-MAWARE is a useful instrument to measure the cognitive process in which negative thoughts and feelings are experienced as they arise. These preliminary findings need to be confirmed in patients.

    The present studies investigated the relation between subcategories of positive beliefs about depressive rumination (beliefs about the advantages of ruminating and the disadvantages of not ruminating) and depressive rumination. The authors conducted three questionnaire studies with undergraduate students. Based on factor analyses, the Reasons for Rumination Inventory (RRI) was developed. The RRI consisted of four factors concerning the advantages of ruminating (Insight into Oneself and Situations, Preparation for Future Catastrophes, Increase of Empathy, and Prevention and Decrease of Dysphoria), and of three factors concerning the disadvantages of not ruminating (Avoidance of Future Mistakes, Avoidance of Persistence and Exacerbation of Dysphoria, and Avoidance of Negative Influence on Personality and Situations). Correlations among the subscale scores on the RRI and measures of positive beliefs about worry showed moderate validity of the RRI. The test-retest correlations demonstrated adequate reliability of the RRI. Additionally, results of correlation analyses showed that the Insight into Oneself and Situations were related to depressive rumination. All factors of beliefs about the disadvantages of not ruminating were also related to depressive rumination. These results indicated that the intention of understanding oneself and one's situations, and intention of avoiding negative consequences without ruminating were associated with persistence of depressive rumination.

  • Comparison of the Influence of Depressive Rumination and Negative Rumination on Depression

    This study compared the influence of depressive rumination and negative rumination on depression. In a longitudinal study with a 4-week interval, undergraduates completed measures of depressive rumination, negative rumination, and depression at Time 1, and measures of depression and stressors during the study at Time 2. The results of multiple regression analysis showed that depressive rumination, but not negative rumination, predicted depression at Time 2, even after controlling both for depression at Time 1 and for stressors. These results indicate that depressive rumination is a useful concept for research and clinical practices involving depression.

    Fixed-role therapy (FRT; Kelly, 1955) is a psychological intervention technique based on one of the constructivist theories, the personal construct theory (PCT). The purpose of this study was to develop an improved FRT to reflect the participant's own decision making process in choosing the role that he/she plays and to examine empirically the effect of the improved FRT for social anxiety. Participants were university students with a high social anxiety tendency; they were assigned to either an improved FRT group (n=11), a standard FRT group (n=10) or a control group (n=11) and were required to engage in the experiment for two weeks. Results indicated that both the improved FRT group and the standard FRT group, compared to the control group, significantly decreased social anxiety, and that the improved FRT group, compared to the standard FRT group, decreased social anxiety at a marginally significant level. Furthermore, results of the evaluation by repertory grid technique, an assessment tool based on PCT, showed that the improved FRT had more beneficial effects than the standard FRT. Therefore, this study suggested that the improved FRT was superior to the standard FRT for decreasing social anxiety.

  • The Relationship between Perfectionism Cognition and Dieting Behavior and the Eating Disorder Tendency in adolescent females

    This study aimed at examining the relationship between perfectionism cognition and dieting behavior and abnormal eating behavior observed in the eating disorder tendency in adolescent females. One hundred and eighty-three female undergraduate and graduate students of a BMI of 24 or lower, meaning a thin or normal figure, filled out the following questionnaires: 1) the Self-Oriented Perfectionism Scale; 2) the Multidimentional Perfectionism Cognitive Inventory (MPCI); 3) the Dieting Behavior Scale (DBS); 4) the Eating Attitude Test-26; and 5) the Overeating, a subscale of the Eating Disorder Inventory. Results showed that the scores on all subscales of the MPCI, namely, Personal Standards (PS), Pursuit of Perfection (PP) and Concern over Mistakes (CM), were correlated with dieting behavior and abnormal eating behavior. Multiple regression analysis revealed that PP affected unhealthy dieting behavior, and that CM influenced abnormal eating behavior. The authors conducted cluster analysis on the DBS scores and found four clusters. The healthy dieting group and unhealthy dieting group scored higher on PS and PP than the average dieting group and no dieting group did. These results suggest that, to prevent eating disorder, it is useful to intervene different perfectionism cognitions considering the dieting pattern and degree of abnormal eating behavior.

  • Development of the Japanese Version of the Experiences Questionnaire and Examination of Its Reliability and Validity

    The Experiences Questionnaire measures decentering, the state of observing thoughts and feelings as temporary events in the mind. This study developed the Japanese version of the Experiences Questionnaire (JEQ). The fit indices in confirmatory factor analysis (n=297) suggested an acceptable fit to a model consistent with the original. The correlations (n=411) between the J-EQ and the Acceptance and Action Questionnaire- II, the Affective Control Scale, the Ruminative Response Scale, and the Cognitive Control Scale showed adequate construct validity. Internal consistency (n=411) and test–retest correlations of factors (n=54) indicated good reliability of the J–EQ. The J–EQ can be used to examine the influence of decentering on psychopathology.

In Studies 1 and 2, the authors developed the Abandonment Schema Questionnaire (ASQ) and examined its reliability and validity using a sample of 452 university students. In Study 3, the authors examined the relationship between abandonment schema and borderline personality features. A survey was conducted using a sample of 253 university students. Analysis of the results was consistent with a causal model indicating that abandonment schema affect BPD features of acting out via affective dysregulation. Future studies are needed to examine whether the ASQ is applicable to populations other than university students.

    The present study was conducted to revise the Japanese version of the Depressive States Checklist (JDSC), and to evaluate the construct validity of the revised version. Undergraduate students participated in two questionnaire studies. In Study 1, items with sufficient face validity and factorial validity representing the self-devaluative view and affective components were selected for the revised version of the J-DSC (JDSC-R). In Study 2, each factor of the J-DSC-R showed adequate construct validity because the correlation coefficients among the factors of the J-DSC-R, depressive symptoms, and depressive rumination generally supported the hypothesis. The J-DSC-R can be used to contribute to the understanding of vulnerability to depression.

    This study investigated beliefs leading to depressive rumination. Undergraduate students (N=155) completed the Positive Beliefs about Depressive Rumination Questionnaire (PBDRQ), the Positive Beliefs about Rumination Scale (PBRS), and a scale of depressive rumination. The PBRS scores were positively correlated with the scale of depressive rumination, but the "Improvement of Problem Solving Ability" and "Promotion of Emotional Regulation" scores of the PBDRQ were not. The results suggest that the beliefs that rumination facilitates understanding of themselves and situations, as measured on the PBRS, were most related to depressive rumination.

    Worry is perseverative negative thinking about what may happen in the future. In this study, we examined the effects of cognitive behaviour intervention focused on metacognitive beliefs about worry, on alleviating worry in Japanese university students with high trait worry scores. Metacognitive be-liefs about worry refer to the beliefs that individuals have about their own worries, such as beliefs about the natures and functions of their own worries.<br>In study I, we administered cognitive-behavioural psychoeducation to high worriers, with a fo-cus on metacognitive beliefs about worry. As a result, individuals who received the psychoeducation (n=13) were less anxious than the placebo intervention group (n=10) at a worry-provoking task.<br>In study II, eighteen high worriers served as subjects. They were assigned to either a self-instructional training (SIT; n=9) group focusing on metacognition or a waiting list control (WLC; n=9) group. As a result, SIT produced a signi.cantly larger treatment effect on modifying negative metacognitive beliefs about worry. In addition SIT was superior to waiting-list control, in yielding improvements on worry related measures.<br>These results show that modi.cation of negative metacognitive beliefs about worry has the effect of alleviating trait worry. The theoretical and clinical implications of these results were discussed.

    The Posttraumatic Cognition Inventory (PTCI; Foa et al., 1999) measures trauma-related negative thoughts and beliefs. Negative cognitions are positively correlated with the development and maintenance of posttraumatic stress symptoms that can be shown in those who have experienced negative life events. The present article reports on the prevalence of negative life events in the lives of Japanese university students, and the development and validation of a Japanese version of the Posttraumatic Cognition Inventory (JPTCI) with students who have experienced negative life events. A survey conducted among 2,622 university students found that 53.5% had experienced such negative life events as natural disasters and transportation accidents. After the Posttraumatic Cognition Inventory was translated into Japanese and checked with back translation, it was mailed to those students who had reported experiencing any of the life events. This validation study revealed that the inventory was composed of the same 3 factors as reported by Foa et al.(1999), and in addition, it demonstrated good test-retest reliability and criterion-related validity. The Japanese version of the Posttraumatic Cognition Inventory is a useful measure that can be applied to students who have experienced negative life events.

    The present study aimed at examining the mechanism of helplessness, by reconsidering contingency in learned helplessness theories. Study1 was to develop a perceived experience of contingency scale for junior high school students (PECS). A scale composed of two factors (contingent experiences non-contingent experiences) was developed, and the reliability and validity was demonstrated. Study2 compared scores on the PECS for students with school non-attendance and those without such a problem. No significant differences in the mean scores on each factor were found between the two groups. The result suggested that students without school non-attendance had lack of contingent experiences and much non-contingent experiences as much as students with such a problem. According to the result, the authors compared scores on the PECS for those with high helplessness and those with low helplessness behavior students in students who attend school. Significant differences in the mean scores on factorl were found between the two groups. The result suggested junior high school students' helplessness was caused by lack of contingent experiences rather than much non-contingent experiences.

But they tended to decrease after funerals.3.A Study on Strategies of Psychotherapeutic Helpings for the Bereaved hit by the EarthquakeIn this study, a self-help group consisting of the bereaved hit by the earthquake was supported.The main findings are as follows :(1)Members naturally exchanged information and talked of their severe experiences with one another.(2)It takes much time for the bereaved to accept the grief of loss

    I Behavioral aspects of psychosomatic patients : Neurological approach.On psychosomatic patients (mainly anorexia), we developed scales assessing behavioral aspects which were controlled by dopamine function system. Based on the scores of the new scales, we classified the subjects into two groups, responders and non-responders. With respect to the central nervous system, we also found difference between subjects being sensitive and those being insensitive. This finding was greatly interesting, and seemed to be related with "awareness" which is one of most important topics for psychosomatic patients.II Type A behavior pattern : Developing measurement.We examined psychometric properties of "Type A behavior pattern" scale (CTS-30). A factor analysis yielded 3 internally consistent factors : "hostility", "prefectionism", and "workaholism". Based on the scores, we compared CHD (coronary heart disease) group with control group. As a result, we empirically confirmed clinical validity of the scale.III Type A behavior pattern : Effect of behavioral intervention.Carried out rational emotive therapy (RET) to CHD patients, we confirmed decreasing tendency of Type A behavior pattern (e.g. "perfectionism"), as well as decreasing "irrational belief". We need to survey follow-up. Nevertheless, these results were deeply interesting.IV Measurement of "repressive behavior" (Type C behavior pattern).A scale assessing "repressive behavior", which is the core of Type C behavior which is one of risk factors in developing cancer, were developed. Including 37 items, it consisted 5 internally consistent subscales : repression, acceptance, overadaptation, patience, and cooperation. Also, psychometric properties of the scale were confirmed

    1. Studies on the control of skin temperature with biofeedback and strategies.1) Efficiency of various procedures of biofeedback training was exmined.(1)Frequency task was effective to increase finger skin temperature as well as amount task.(2)Successive approximation method was more effective training procedure to increase skin temperature than fixed criterion method.2) Effects of autogenic tranining and feedback on the increase of finger skin temperature were examined.Autogenic training was the effective strategy to increase skin temperature. In general, feedback signals tended to deteriorate control of skin temperature. However, there were individual deferences in effect of feedback. That is, some of the subjects increased their skin temperature and some of them decrease when the feedback was presented.2. Studies on the control of heart rates with biofeedback.1) Effects of autogenic training as a strategy on the control of heart rates were examined.(1)Autogenic training was an extremely effective technique to decrease heart rates.(2)This technique produced large individual differences in the degree of heart rates decrease.2) Feedback effects and individual differences on the heart rate control were examined.(1)There was no relation between performance and feedback (information presentation).(2)There were two types of subjects, who showed a good and poor control of heart rates.(3)Respiration as strategy related to the degree of heart rates control. High correlation among the degree of heart rates control, methods of respiration, muscle tension, and relaxation were found.3. Studies of the pain control and it's strategies.Various strategies of pain control were categorized and efficiency of the strategies of each category were examined. Attention focusing on the specific task, self-control, recall of imagery were effective strategies to control of experimentrally induced pain

  • 健康にかかわる心理学的諸要因の分析

    前年度の予備調査の結果にもとづき、40項目からなる健康感尺度の最終原案が作成され、成人・大学生252名を対象に調査が実施された。分析結果から、健康感は心理的安定感、意欲、体調、生活行動習慣の4因子から構成されていることが分かった。そこで、これらの因子にもとづいて下位尺度を構成することにし、信頼性と妥当性を検討した。下位尺度ごとの内的整合性を検討した結果、心理的安定感では9項目、意欲では11項目、体調では6項目、生活行動習慣では7項目、合計33の尺度項目が選定された。尺度全体のa係数は十分高い信頼性をもつ値であった。健康感尺度の安定性を検討するため、検査・再検査間の相関係数を算出した結果、高い相石係数が得られた。健康感尺度の妥当性を検討した結果、弁別力が高く、妥当なものであることが示された。本尺度を詳細に検討するため、次の実験が実施された。健康感尺度の高・低得点者に対して、嫌悪刺激回避場面での認知的対処方略と自律系生理反応の違いを比較検討するために実験を行った。その結果、健康感の高い者はそうでない者に比べ、多様な認知的対処方略を用い、自律系生理反応の安定化を自己コントロ-ルによって試みる傾向があることが明らかにされた。精神神経科外来患者を対象に自律神経系のポリグラフィ-、MAS、CMI、STAIを実施すると共に、健康感尺度も併せて実施した。健康感尺度の高得点者は、低得点者よりも照律神経ポリグラフィ-の変動が多く、交感神経系の活発さがうかがわれた。A治療施設の治療セッションに参加した、対人不安の患者に、認知行動変容によるトリ-トメントを行い、その前後に健康感尺度と5種類の不安テストを実施した。その結果、対人不安群の健康尺度得点は、健常者、内科群より有意に低く、心療内科群とは差がなかった

  • 構成主義と合理主義の認知行動療法-シャイネスに対する治療効果の差の検討-

     本研究では、シャイネス傾向の高い大学生30名を対象として、自己教示訓練群、役割固定法群、ウェイティング・リスト統制群の3群を設定して、治療効果の比較研究を行った。2週間の訓練期間内に、自己教示訓練群、役割固定法群では5回の面接を行い、その1カ月後にもフォローアップ面接を行った。訓練期間中、自己教示訓練では、対人不安と結びつく自己陳述の明確化と、合理的な自己陳述の自己教示、対処的な対人場面のイメージを促した。役割固定法では、自己描写法による自己物語の作成、ロールプレイング、シナリオに基づく日常生活での演技を促した。ウェイティング・リスト統制群では、2週間に2回の面接を、その1カ月後にはフォローアップ面接を行った。自己教示訓練群、役割固定法群とは異なり、特別な訓練は行わなかった。いずれの群においても、訓練の開始時と2週間後、1カ月後には自己評価尺度による治療効果の測定を行った。各指標の得点については3(群)×3(段階)の分散分析を行った。交互作用が見られた場合は、単純主効果の検定を行い、多重比較検定にはシェフェ法を用いた。分散分析の結果によると、統制群では変化が見られなかったにもかかわらず、自己教示訓練群と役割固定法群では、訓練直後のシャイネス傾向(早稲田シャイネス尺度)が改善され、自己の外面性にとらわれる傾向(公的自己意識)が解消された。さらに、役割固定法群のみで、日常生活のなかで有能に振る舞うという自信(一般的自己効力感)が強まり、社会的場面における自尊心(非社会的自尊心尺度)も上昇した。以上のことから、役割固定法は統制条件よりも有意にシャイネスを改善することができ、自己教示訓練と比べても遜色ない効果を発揮することがわかった。なお、レパートリー・グリッドの結果の分析については、専用のソフトによる計算が煩瑣であるため、もうしばらく時間を要する見通しである。

  • シャイネスの変容に対する自己教示訓練の効果とその効果に及ぼす反応パターンの影響

     本研究の目的は、大学生のシャイネスに対する自己教示訓練(以下SIT)の効果を検討するとともに、cognitive reactors(生理的には安定しているが、非理性的な者;以下CR)であるか、physiological reactors(理性的だが、生理的に不安定な者;以下PR)であるかの別によって、効果が異なるかどうかを、シャイネスの認知、感情、行動の側面から検討することであった。設定された仮説は、①SIT条件は統制(waiting list control;以下WLC)条件よりもシャイネスの改善に有効である、②同じくシャイネスでありながらも、CRである場合の方がPRである場合よりも、主に認知の変容に焦点が当てられているSITの効果が大きい、ということであった。被験者は、シャイネスを示す大学生であり、心理テストのスコアと、課題(初対面の異性との会話)場面期と安静期の心拍数の差によって、CRとPRに分類された。これらの者は、さらに、SIT条件(初対面の異性との会話場面において、シャイネスをコントロールできるようにするために適切なことばを自分に言いきかせる訓練を行う)、あるいはWLC条件(特別な訓練を行わない)にランダムに振り分けられた。結局、CR-SIT、CR-WLC、PR-SIT、PR-WLCの4群が設けられた。いずれの群でも、トリートメント(SITまたはWLC)の前(プリテスト)と後(ポストテスト)に、初対面の異性との会話場面(先述の、CRとPRを分類するためのものとは別)が設けられ、その際のシャイネスが測定された。結果として、SITはWLCと比較して、シャイネスの認知的側面と感情的側面を改善させ、SITの有効性が確認された。したがって、仮説①は検証されたといえる。しかし、特性シャイネスの認知的側面については、PR-SIT群で改善したのに対して、CR-SIT群では改善しなかった。一方、シャイネスの行動的側面(アイコンタクト、顔の表情などの項目を評定)では、ほとんどの項目で、CR-SIT群ではCR-WLC群よりも、またPR-SIT群ではPR-WLC群よりも、良好な結果であった。そして、どちらかといえば、CR-SIT群よりもPR-SIT群における結果が優っていた。要するに、仮説①はむしろ検証されなかったといえる。ただし、これについては、被験者を各群に振り分ける際の基準の厳密さや各群のサンプル数に若干の難点があったためとも考えられるので、今後念のために、追加の実験を行う予定である。なお、シャイネスの行動的側面においても、SITの効果がCRよりもPRの者で優っていたことについては、さらに検討を重ねる必要があるだろう。

  • 自己教示の内容が選択できる場合とできない場合における自己教示訓練が大学生のシャイネスの変容に及ぼす影響

    本研究の目的は、大学生のシャイネスの変容に及ぼす自己教示訓練の効果を検討する際に、個人が望む側面に焦点を当てた自己教示文を選択できる場合と、そうでない場合の効果を比較検討することであった。被験者は、シャイネスの高い大学生であり、①個人に合わせた自己教示を選択できる自己教示訓練条件(個人が望む側面に焦点を当てた自己教示文を言いきかせる訓練を行う)、②個人に合わせた自己教示を選択できない自己教示訓練条件(個人が望む側面とは異なる側面に焦点を当てた自己教示文を言いきかせる訓練を行う)、③統制条件(特別な訓練は行わない)の条件に振り分けられた。このようなトリートメントを行う前(プリテスト)と後(ポストテスト)に、被験者が初対面の異性と会話する場面を設け、その際のシャイネスを認知・感情・行動の側面から多面的に測定した。その結果、いずれの自己教示訓練群でも、統制群との比較において、トリートメントを行うことによって、特性シャイネス、状態シャイネスが低減し、セルフエフィカシーが高まった。このことから、①と②の条件の違いにもかかわらず、自己教示訓練がシャイネスの改善に有効であることが明示された。一方、①の条件の方が②の条件よりも効果が大きいことが予測されたが、シャイネスの変容に限定すれば、2つの自己教示条件の効果はおよそ同等であったといえよう。このことを裏づけるように、訓練に対するはじめの取り組み姿勢、訓練期間中の訓練への違和感、訓練がうまくできた程度のなどに対する自己評定では、2つの自己教示条件間に差は認められなかった。しかし、①の条件でのみ私的自己意識(の強さ)が低減し、自尊心が高まったことから、本人が望む自己教示文を用いた自己教示訓練を行うことで、シャイネスと関連する現象に対する般化効果が促進されるといえよう。ただし、行動面からみたシャイネスの印象評定では、②の条件でのみシャイネスの程度が改善しており、その理由を明らかにすることは、今後の課題の一つだろう。

  • 統制の位置(LocusofControl)が自己教示の効果に及ぼす影響

    本研究では,被験者の「統制の位置」との関連から自己教示がシャイネスの変容に及ぼす効果を検討した。被験者は,シャイネスの高い大学生であり,内的統制型,外的統制型に分けられた。これら2群の被験者はそれぞれ,(1)自己教示条件(シャイネスに対処するための適切な言葉を言い聞かせる訓練を行う)または(2)統制条件(特別な訓練を行わない)に振り分けられた。こうしたトリートメントを行う前のプリテストと後のポストテストで,被験者が初対面の異性と会話する場面を設定し,その際のシャイネスを認知,情動,行動の側面から測定した。その結果は,およそ次の通りであった。〔認知的側面について〕シャイネスに関する自動思考,会話場面についての認知的評価において,自己教示条件は統制条件よりも,トリートメントによる改善が大きかった。また,認知的評価のうちセルフ・エフィカシーについては,内的統制型・自己教示条件での改善が大きかった。〔情動的側面について〕自己教示条件では統制条件と比べて,状態不安が大きく改善した。また,会話直前の心拍数については,統制型の効果のみがみられ,内的統制型は外的統制型に比べて,プリテストからポストテストにかけて心拍数の低減が大きかった。〔行動的側面について〕外的統制型・自己教示条件では,外的統制型・統制条件よりも,プリテストからポストテストにかけて「オープンな感じ」が低減した。また内的統制型・自己教示条件は,内的統制型・統制条件と比べて,「積極的に関わっている感じ」が増大した。以上のことから,概して,自己教示訓練がシャイネスのさまざまな側面に対して効果があることがわかる。また,統制型については,内的統制型であること,または内的統制型で自己教示訓練を受けることが,ポジティブな結果に結びつくようである。
