    The focus of this research is on an international distance discussion class carried out in Chinese between university students in Japan, China and Taiwan using videoconferencing. Smiling was used as an interactional index in an analysis of the archival footage of the recordings of the discussion between native speakers (NS) of Chinese and non-native speakers (NNS). Through quantitative and qualitative analysis, it was possible to identify how the NSs and NNSs participated in the discussion. We analyzed a 70-minute video and the textual materials of a discussion class among 13 students from different countries. Findings revealed that interactions between NS and NNS students gave rise to more smiling and laughter compared to interactions between NS students. Findings also revealed that NNS students are better at creating affinity with other participants, since their laughter events could reflect differences in cultures and in human relationships though these jokes were less novel and less funny than those of NS students. Compared with more traditional class formats, the distance class is better at helping students develop their social, intercultural and problem-solving abilities. However, NS students are more likely to take the initiative in discussions due to their language ability, while the NNS students are less able to express their opinions freely. This research tells us that even though NNS students have disadvantages in terms of their linguistic resources, they make use of both verbal and non-verbal resources to interact with other speakers. Based on our analysis, suggestions for international distance foreign language teaching and research are given.

    A computer-assisted instruction (CAI) system for self-teaching to discriminate Chinese tones is available to the public through the Internet (http://chinesetone.org) in Japanese, English, and Chinese versions. The design and construction of this system have been reported previously (Hiki et al., J. Acoust. Soc. Am., 120(5, Pt. 2), 2 006). This system utilizes displays of the voice pitch pattern as visual cues in training. The following new functions of the display recently have been added to the system: 1) Essential voice pitch patterns of 15 disyllabic words, with every combination of the four tones in Standard Chinese, were drawn on a six-whole-tone musical scale. It is expected that displaying the corresponding essential voice pitch pattern along with the observed voice pitch pattern will make it easier for beginners to aurally perceive the tonal features, which underlay the observed pitch patterns
    2) Disyllabic word lists comprising only voiced sound source were developed, and the observed voice pitch patterns uninterrupted by unvoiced consonants were displayed visually. These speech samples were useful in the early stages of tone discrimination learning.

    As Chinese resultative compound verbs V-R have high productive forces and rich semantic meanings, they are quite effective in Chinese and place themselves above the auxiliary verbs in Japanese and English. Compared with the associativity of V1-V2, V-R covers a wide range of meanings so that it easily comes into being the inconsistency of forms and meanings. For the reasons above, the accuracy of the Chinese studies and translation dictionaries declines. And then it becomes the blind spots of qualitative research. We construct the Chinese Verb dictionary on line not only assists in the explanations of the V1-V2 combination rules but also puts forward proposals on the integrative learning of phrase patterns and word meanings of Chinese compound verbs V-R by comparing the examples in the dictionary.

    Information−communication technology（ICT）progress and rapid expansion of international exchange have a major impact on the educational methods. Especially acquisition of a foreign language is more effective for utilizing ICT and cross−cultural communication environment than other subjects since it requires learners to get a certain level of achievement and to take a practical approach. This paper discusses an educational effect of a listening system using Chinese text−to−speech（TTS）as a case of utilizing ICT in Chinese learning. In the past four experiments, the performance of listening using Chinese TTS is better than the one using natural speech. So TTS is verified to be a reliable material for a listening system. Meanwhile the operation records of TTS sound playback and visual information access in the listening process are analyzed in the correlation with the performance of listening and getting prosody structure, then a learning model of listening using TTS is proposed with reference to the questionnaire result for learners. The function selection conscious of the learners acceptability is regarded as a common viewpoint for educational usage of ICT.

    日本のNHKが行っている公的国際放送（テレビ、ラジオとインターネット）の番組内容を、中国中央電視台CCTVや中国国際放送局CRIの日本語番組と比較した結果、CCTVやCRIのコンテンツの多彩さと放映量の多さが際立った。原因は中国が国際放送というメディアを通じ、国家イメージの文化的付加価値の強化に本腰を入れ、飛躍的技術革新を遂げるデジタル配信や機械翻訳・通訳技術の積極的導入を行っていることによる。言語の壁が低くなることで、結果的に報道担当者と現地の聴衆との直接対話が増大し、ソフト・パワーの発信がマスメディアによる情報寡占やポピュリズムの克服に寄与する可能性を示唆する。

    Local Student（LS）を包摂する多言語に開かれた授業実現のため、本学のInternational Student（IS）との共生実態調査を行った。327通の回答を分析した結果、早稲田キャンパスのLSとISは外国語習得目的や将来のキャリア設計が異なり、英語で授業を行うことに対する反応も異なることが判明した。また教員はISの授業に対しては異文化知識や言語能力を活かす工夫をしているが、LSクラスへの対応は不足気味の結果となった。設問中の自由記述は英中日文を含む計22500字の回答を得た。並行して担当教員と外国留学生およびISへの半構造化インタビューを実施し、ともにDB化して今後の詳細な分析に備えた。

  • 音声合成技術を応用した能力適応型中国語学習支援システムの開発

    ●主な研究成果中国語のText to Speech(TTS)技術を使ったリスニング実験を行い、80名の被験者学習記録とアンケート調査から、音声合成利用による聴取テストの成績が、肉声による成績を上回ることを検証し、中国語の合成音を教育に利用することの妥当性を示した。併せて、聴取訓練用CAIプログラムの設計、中国語合成音を導入した日常中国語会話テキストプラットフォームの構築を、それぞれ北京大学段慧明女史、㈱富士通研究所・FRCD、北京外国語教学与研究社の協力を得て完成した。TTSは音質・音調・音速・ピッチの選択が可能なばかりか、生成過程の各種中間表示情報（漢字、ピンイン、音声波形図、語法ツリー構造図）も参照示できる。本実験でも合成音利用グループは、CAIの再生機能で異なる音速を多回数聴取しており、得点伸長を主導した。いっぽう、中級レベルの学習者はTTSの各種中間表示の参照効果が認められたが、初級者は語彙や構文情報を意味理解に生かせない。語法単位を越えた韻律語句、文脈を欠いた単文聴取は全被験者に共通する聴取失敗の原因であることを明らかにした。●今後の課題CAIプログラム設計を、新出語彙、韻律単位と語法単位の対応規則、中国語文型情報が提示可能に改良し、実験データから難度パラメータを作成し、Computerized Adaptive Testing対応の出題方略モジュールを構築する。●成果の公開本研究の概要と研究成果、ならびに中国語合成音サンプルを以下で公開している。中国語合成音を使った日常会話テキスト『漢語互動式口語』(砂岡和子他著,外国語教学与研究社刊)Webサイト：http://www.chineseplus.cn/富士通中国語合成音TTSサンプル：http://www.fujitsu.com/cn/frdc/product/tts.html韻律と語法の対応規則一覧表、中国語文型一覧表、聴取テスト用CAIプログラムは、今後、以下のHPで順次公開してゆく。

    早稻田大学・慶応大学湘南・北京大学・清華大学・韓国高麗大学の5大学学生による中国語と日本語による討論会のVHS一次動画資料を使い、母語話者と非母語話者とのミスコミュニケーションを検出、対照できるシステムの開発を行った。 今年度は言語行動と近隣関係にある身体言語〔bodylanguage〕、待遇表現〔politeness〕と、不自然なポーズやフィラー〔filler〕などの解析に絞って研究をおこなった。前半は分析トライアルを北京大学中文系と同大ソフトウエア&マイクロエレクトリック学院の学生に依頼し、DVD資料の聞きお越しとミスコミュニケーションの検出、誤用の分類判断を行い、その分析結果にしたがって、ミス分類基準の調整を繰り返した〔砂岡〕。 同時に編集用ツールの開発と修正を行い〔愈敬松、藤田〕、試行錯誤の結果、身体言語や待遇表現は母語話者による直感的判断を採用、ポーズやフィラーは音声自動波形表示ができる編集ツールを利用して、半自動的に抽出する方法を開発し〔愈敬松〕、人力軽減と判断の客観性と恒常性を確保する分析方法を見出した。 現在分析編集ツールELAN4-0をカスタマイズし、DVD Ripperなどのソフトと組み合わせて動画シーンのミスコミュニケーション分析試料の蓄積を進めている。半年後には第一期計30時間分の中国語口語ミスコミュニケーションコーパスを完成する。 本研究はまたヒューマンセキュリチイー保全のための異文化国際交流支援学習ツールであるため、研究期間中後半は、積極的に平和学や多言語交流の関連学会へ出席して論文発表を行い、平常の異文化コミュニケーションの重要性と学際研究の必要性を訴えた〔砂岡、愈敬松〕。今後は実用性ある学習用誤用シーン検索システムを構築し、Webでの公開を目指す。

  • 日中パラレルコーパスを利用した語学教材開発と授業での活用

    本研究期間中、以下の数種の中国語および日英語彙・語法コーパスを整備し、教育用にカスタマイズした。1)Tutorial中国語レッスン用テキスト所出全語句コーパス〔約１万語〕2)清華大学編日本語教科書所出日中英パラレル語彙（日本語能力試験1-4級含む約2万語）3)北京大学語料庫中国語声調統計的コーパス〔約24万語〕4)動詞句学習コーパス〔約10万語〕整備した日中英対訳コーパス資源を統合し、付加情報の向上をめざし、EDR電子辞書のライセンスを購入したが、プログラマーの人材不足と開発資金不足により、今後も継続して有効活用を図りたい。上掲の語料は、自習用CALLドリルやWeb作文添削など、語学教材開発と授業で活用された。近日、ネットワークを通じて公開すべく、現在以下のプログラムを開発中である。5)「中国語声調聴取の自習のためのCAIシステム」(2006年5月公開予定)　日本人学生者の声調誤りデータを解析し、最適な手順で誘導して声調をマスターできるCAI自習システム。インターネットを通じ、コンピュータ画面上で〔練習〕〔試験〕〔復習〕モードを適宜呼び出して、標準中国語の声調を正しく聞き取れるまで支援するシステム。システム製作には、北京大学語彙コーパスによる中国語四声の出現頻度や遷移確率など統計的な性質を利用した。6)「SMILを用いた遠隔異文化コミュニケーション障害克服学習プログラム」(2006年6月公開予定)　TV会議方式遠隔交流時、異文化による交流障害を、主に非言語的要因について、簡単に修正ポイントを書き込める動画コメント用ソフトを使って自習するプログラム。7)「中国語作文添削システム」(2006年10月予定)誤用コーパスの分析結果を利用したWEB作文学習支援プログラム。統一文法添削マークによる添削データを回収し、作文添削データを誤用コーパスとして蓄積し，専用統計エディターを開発して，自然言語処理と言語教育用に誤用分析を行っている。なお、携帯電話での活用は小規模実験を数回行い、理論検証を行ったが、人材不足と開発資金不足により、大規模な実装にいたらず、今後の継続課題としたい。

  • チュートリアル中国語国際配信システム構築とグローバルデジタルテキストの編集

    　中国語口語能力に焦点をあて、北京大学対外漢語教育学院および台湾師範大学華語教学研究所とテレビ会議による語学教学プログラムの国際開発を行った。平成14年は海外提携大学とのインターネット経由による授業配信実験を行い、平成15年はインストラクター養成法、テキスト編集、共同研究など、コンテンツ研究が深化した。平成16年度は、北京から大学216駒、台湾師範大学から144駒、計360駒の遠隔授新教育モデルの安定配信と学習支援のため、平成15年10月より授業管理プラットフォームを立ち上げ(http://www.tcwaseda.net/tc/)、大陸系・台湾系など地域によって異なる教学理論・教授法・テキスト・書記字体・試験方法などを、逐次本学HPを通じてデータベース化を試み、多地域の教師・学生による協調的グローバル教授法の開発を試みた。　具体的な成果は、口語デジタルコ-パスの構築〔北京大学計算語言学研究所と共同開発〕、口語コ-パスと連動したTutorial Chinese用テキスト3冊、テキスト学習サポート情報、学生に配信する受講コメントTutorReport、携帯電話端末対応のCALLドリルシステム〔早稲田大学GITS浦野研究室と共同開発〕、授業内容と連動したWeb作文添削指導、BBS投稿、口語能力判定テスト〔早稲田インターナショナル㈱、教育測定研究所と共同開発〕を行い、一部はすでに授業に導入し、教学情報共有に成果を挙げている。

  • 中国語チュートリアル遠隔学習システムの国際共同開発－学習プログラム企画とデジタル教材作成－

    　　チュートリアルシステムとは言語運用能力に焦点をあてた新しい外国語学習形態で、チュータ1名対学生4名までの小人数レッスンを実現するため、ビデオ会議システムを用い有資格専門チュータが個別に発話訓練をおこなうプログラムである。平成11年末から申請人グループ〔代表砂岡和子（政経）、小川利康（商）、村上公一（教）、楊達（文）、劉傑（社）、杉田泰史（法）、楊立明（語研）、青山瑠妙（教）〕は早稲田大学と韓国高麗大学、国立台湾師範大学および北京の首都師範大学とネットワーク型中国語語学演習（簡称CCDL）実施の中で、実践的口語コニュニケーション能力開発システム構築を目指し、台湾師範大学との間で中国語チュートリアル国際共同開発計画に基本合意した。　　本年は早稲田学内完結型で模擬レッスンを数回実施しデータ収集と講評を通じて従来型教場語学授業との比較分析を行った。成果は学習に即還元可能なデジタル教材や授業報告にまとめ、国内外の遠隔関連会議で発表して先行研究者と討議し、将来展望の認識を深めた。平行して2003年春出版を目標にチュートリアルプログラム用の受講者テキスト編纂ならびにチュータ養成ﾏﾆｭｱﾙの作成に着手した。　　同時にCCDL研究所中国語部会と共同し上記海外3校とのテレビ会議（2001年度実施回数10回）、ＣＵ－SeeMeチャット（平日平均20-30名の学生参加）、HomepageベースのBBS交流（2001年4月-7月間；台湾師範大学と早稲田大学間の投稿数650件、首都師範大学(北京)と早稲田大学に87件、高麗大学と早稲田大学は162件；パナソニック㈱調査資料による）を実施し、その学習成果を記録に収め資料分析研究を進めた。2002年3月中旬には台湾師範大学を訪れ、現地責任者や研究者と中国語チュートリアルプログラムの教学体制、ハード構築、教師トレーニングシステム、ﾃｷｽﾄおよび教師ﾏﾆｭｱﾙ編修の打ち合わせ討論を行った。その結果、現在ＩＳＤＮ回線のテレビ会議システムを、近い将来IP接続に代え通信コスト軽減を図ること、台湾師範大学チュータ候補の2002年後期本学派遣、テレビ会議による中国語スピーキング能力テスト講義などが内定した。2002年12月下旬には本課題チーム主催による中国語学遠隔教育に関する国際シンポジウムを開催予定で、遠隔授業の海外協力校と世界の中国語遠隔教育に関する専門家を招請し論文発表を依頼するほか、海外3ケ所、国内１ケ所をISDN回線で結び会議の様子を実況放映する。

  • 早稲田大学中国語CALL教材用基本文法情報電子データベースの作成

    　文法情報電子データベースの作成にあたり、広く語学補助教材として共用できるよう以下の２点に重点を置き、開発と研究を行った。Ａ）文法項目選定基準は一般性が高くシンプルであることＢ）共有教材として利用しやすい電子データテキストで提供すること現在までの研究成果を以下に挙げる。①CALL99（立命館大学樋口昌敏氏開発）による中国語初級・中級文法ドリル問題を約1000題作製完了。すでに砂岡担当の政経学部・商学部の中国語授業字間と課外補助教材用に利用開始している。平易で自己採点型インターフェイスをもつCALL99学習ソフトは学生の自学自習を助け、個々のレベルに応じた語学学習を可能にした。教員はテキストに準拠した問題の作製ができ、学習履歴保存と成績管理用ファイルを参照して、より正確に個々の学生の習得状況を把握できる。2000年度から2001年度にかけ、本教材を定期試験にも採用した結果、ペーパー試験では出題数が30－40題が限度なのに対し、80問まで問題数を飛躍的に増やすことができた。異なるレベルの学生に充分応える出題庫確保と、受験しつつ自学する考査方式、個人履歴が明白でカンニング無用の試験方式という一石三鳥の効果を実証できた。②CALL99に搭載する文法情報は、語順入れ替え問題を中心にすでに1000題を作製した。基本文法情報は教員があらかじめペルプやコメントに提示しておき、学生はドリル回答のさい参照しつつ基本文法を会得する形式である。今後、当初作製した文法情報に学生の学習歴分析結果をフィードバックし更新予定である。また文法問題に加え基本漢字と語彙ドリルの増強を急いでいる。各問題には可能な限り音声ファイルと画像ファイルを添付し、語学学習効果の向上を図る計画である。③完成問題はCDROM形式で公開予定である。またWEB上でも使用できるよう、漢字コードを含むソフトのマルチリンガル対応をソフト開発者に打診中である。将来は本電子文法情報データベースを基にCALL授業に特化した電子学習辞書構築を目指したい。
