    Interpellation or Autonomy. The case of Nikkei Identity in<br />
    the Argentinean-Japanese Community. The concept of nation<br />
    related to the migratory predicament is analyzed. In<br />
    a theoretical point of view, an ideological interpellation<br />
    figure is recovered, raising two possible deflections:<br />
    identification and the concerning interpellations. In the<br />
    empirical research, Nikkei identity is studied as an historical<br />
    phenomenon of Japanese migration to Argentina.<br />
    Thus, the question about the way in which national<br />
    interpellations on immigrants and their descendants<br />
    operate is raised. Finally, a debate on the way in which<br />
    communitarian institutionality at an intermediate level<br />
    can create conditions of autonomy.

  • La colectividad and the Japanese Disappeared people under the Regime of Military Junta in Argentina

    This paper focuses on the situation of Japanese immigrants and their descendants, as well as their community in Argentina, within the context of Argentina’s military junta in the late 1970s,<br />
    especially its method of repression: the disappearance of people. I approach this topic by considering Argentine national society under the regime named “National Reorganization Process” as a contact<br />
    zone between argentinos and japoneses.<br />
    The Military Junta built in March 1976 declared an “anti-subversive war”; as the central operation of that, they abducted a large number of people estimated or labeled as “subversives” to<br />
    torture them clandestinely and simultaneously denied their conduct of repression by designating the detained people as the “disappeared”. Other people had to choose not to speak about what was happening in order to escape from this operation. This methodology ruled the whole national society by the fear of disappearing, which had the effect of silencing counter action and of<br />
    eliminating the contact zone along with the people.<br />
    Within the Japanese immigrant community called la colectividad a normative order had been established over the members to maintain a common positive image toward Japanese among other Argentines, such as “honest”, “not criminal” and “low profile”. In order to do that, the Japanese immigrants were ordered not to engage in politics. This order resonated with that of the military government. In this way la colectividad had filled the role of an apparatus of producing a model<br />
    minority, which supports the military regime.<br />
    Most second-generation Japanese in that period tended to feel those community orders as oppression. Among them, those who had sympathized with the leftist thought chose to leave the community to participate in political activities against the Japanese-national norm. Some of these activists have disappeared , but we can approach their thoughts and conducts by listening to their families and friends who are willing to break the silence. The politics for the disappeared japoneses can be understood as a way of criticizing the national and community regime built over the elimination of individual political space and searching for an alternative society which would not<br />
    totalize them under the name of Japanese.

    本報告では、1970年代後半アルゼンチンの国家暴力によって生み出された「失踪者」という特殊なかたちでの喪失に直面する近親者の実践に焦点を当て、「失踪者の文化」の一面として記述を試みる。死に隣接しつつ死と同一視し得ないことから喪の不完全性・不可能性を特徴とする「失踪」に対し、「失踪者親族」の組織活動が別のかたちでの服喪の方法を構築してきたことを、二種類の「回復」の概念を手がかりとして論じる。

    本報告は、アルゼンチン最後の軍事政権（1976－83）の弾圧によって生み出された「失踪者（行方不明者）」という存在の特殊性を論じる。生と死の間に突如挿入され延長される「失踪」という個人の欠如、その不確定性は、親族にとってどのような現実なのか、またその「失踪者」の「死」が確定されることは、家族にどのような変化をもたらすのかといった問いについて、失踪者家族会のメンバーへの聞き取りを基に考察する。

    交付申請書に明記した「研究の目的」について、下記のとおり予定になかった新たな知見を得たこともあり、既存の人類学的議論における本研究の位置づけの明確化については充分に達成できなかったものの、「日系人」という集団名をめぐる広範な事例をもとに、集団カテゴリーと移民共同体の構築・変遷のプロセスの関係を人種や民族の論理に関する議論と照らし合わせつつ歴史に即して考察するという目的はおおむね計画通りに進展した。
    「研究実施計画」に関しては、交付申請書記載のとおり1.議論枠組みの精緻化、2.史資料調査、3.現地調査それぞれについて下記のとおり研究を実施した。
    1.議論枠組みの精緻化
    当初は、国民国家内に形成される移民集団の同一性を世代間継承の視点から考察するための枠組みを獲得することを目的とし、人類学における親族論や名前をめぐる議論を整理することを計画していたが、近年の人類学の潮流もふまえ、共同体の構築を可能にする具体的な言説や条件、装置を分析する視点が重要と考えるに至り、これに関する議論の読解を進めた。この作業は現在も進行中であり、学会誌に投稿するに足るまとめの段階には未だ達していない。
    2.史資料調査
    計画通り、戦後政治史、外交史関連の文献や外交史資料の検討を通じて、占領期から1960年ごろまでの日本政府にとっての「移民」の位置づけを考察し、論文として発表した。「海外日系人大会」などのイベントや国際協力機構(旧国際協力事業団)の事業のような公的な動きだけでなく、表立って語られていないなかで日本政府が「日系人」をどのような存在とみなし関わってきたのかを明らかにすることで、「日系人」カテゴリーの歴史のなかで見過ごされてきた一面を埋めるものと言える。
    3.現地調査
    アルゼンチン・ブエノスアイレスでの調査、メキシコでの調査ともに、文字史料の収集、インタビュー(人数、時間)を行ない、計画以上の成果を得た。とくに今回集中的に行なったインタビューを通じて、他の方法では得ることのできない貴重な知見・情報を多数得ることができた。これらの成果は次年度に論文として発表する。また今回の調査によって現地の研究者との交流も深まり、今後の相互協力、共同研究の道も大きく開かれた。

Internal Special Research Projects

  • 「失踪者」の文化に関する民族誌的研究：アルゼンチンにおける旧秘密収容所保存運動

    8月にアルゼンチン・ブエノスアイレスで現地調査を実施した。2016年末に新たに特定・確認された旧秘密拘禁所について、同特定に携わった人物R氏（人権局管轄・記憶と人権の空間「旧ESMA」職員）からその経緯について聞き取りを行なった。また同人物の同行・案内のもと、該当箇所に赴き現場の状況を確認した。またR氏が勤務する建造物保存担当部署の文書・非文書所蔵資料を閲覧・収集した。そのほか国内で最も影響力のある人権関連団体である「アルゼンチン人権連盟LADH」、「アルゼンチン司法人類学チームEAAF」、「法と社会研究センターCELS」の職員と面談し聞き取りを行なった。これらの成果は次年度に投稿する予定の論文にまとめて発表する。

    アルゼンチン出張を8月と3月に実施した。8月には第2回日本研究集会（於ブエノスアイレス）で、「日本人」から考える現代のレイシズムをテーマに招待講演を行なったほか、ラプラタ国立大学、ブエノスアイレス大学など現地の東アジア研究者・日本研究者と交流した。また本課題の共同研究者3人と打ち合わせを行ない、共通テーマでの連作論文執筆にむけて準備を進めた。3月の出張でも同計画について共同研究者と打ち合わせを行なうほか、アルゼンチンの国民的同一性の認識における「日本人」の位置づけという論点に関して、ラプラタ大学および国立科学技術研究審議会の研究者との面談・議論、インタビュー調査、資料収集を実施した。
