Bernat MARTI OROVAL (ベルナット・マルティ・オロバル). I was born in 1979 in Valencia (Spain). From 2006 to 2012, I was an Exchange Researcher and Special Research Student at the Department of Asian Philosophy, Waseda University. I obtained my Ph.D. from the University of Valencia in 2013. I have previously worked as an Adjunct lecturer at the Tokyo University of Foreign Studies, Keio University, and Tokyo University; and as an Associate Professor at Sophia University. Since 2020, I am an Associate Professor at the Faculty of Political Science and Economics, at Waseda University. My research focuses on Meiji-era thought (especially Meiji Buddhism) and the evangelization activities of Christian missionaries in Japan during the 16th and 17th centuries.

    En la segunda década del siglo XVII, varios años después de la prohibición del cristianismo en Japón, los misioneros que habían decidido no abandonar el país estaban sufriendo una dura persecución que acabaría en la década siguiente con la muerte, expulsión o apostasía de todos ellos. En este contexto continuaron produciéndose ásperas disputas entre los jesuitas y las órdenes mendicantes, que habían comenzado en el siglo anterior con las discusiones sobre sus respectivos derechos a la evangelización de Japón. En el presente trabajo presentamos la edición y traducción del manuscrito AFIO 23-8, que da cuenta de un episodio casi desconocido, ocurrido en la actual zona de Tōhoku en el año 1627, de este largo enfrentamiento entre órdenes religiosas. El origen de esta confrontación fue la administración del sacramento de la confirmación a los conversos japoneses por parte de los franciscanos en esta región. El documento editado y traducido está compuesto, en primer lugar, por dos tratados litúrgicos en japonés del jesuita Francisco Boldrino contra esta práctica de los franciscanos y, en segundo lugar, por la respuesta en castellano del fraile franciscano Diego de San Francisco a dichas objeciones. Este documento, de gran interés lingüístico e histórico, revela que las confrontaciones entre jesuitas y mendicantes sobre diferentes aspectos de la evangelización de Japón siguieron produciéndose hasta prácticamente los últimos años de actividad misionera en el país.

    本研究では、1604年（慶長8年）12月25日付で、京阪のキリシタン代表によって日本語で書かれた日本二十六聖人の殉教を巡る文献に焦点を絞った。史料自体に題目は見られないものの、日本の先行研究では「京坂信徒代表二十六殉教者列聖請願書」と呼ばれている。この史料には京坂地域のフランシスコ会のキリスト教徒代表者12名の署名があり、ローマ教皇に向けて、1597年に処刑された日本人二十六名の殉教を説明し、彼らの列福・列聖を要請している。この史料はフランスの東洋学者アントワーヌ・カバトン（Antoine Cabaton 1863-1942）によって1915年頃にローマ市のフランシスコ会の修道院サンティ・クアランタ（Santi Quaranta）で発見され、その後1926年にフランスの日本学者であったジョゼフ・ドートルメール（Joseph Dautremer 1860-1946）の学術論文で紹介され、フランス語に訳された。その後、西洋ではこの史料はほとんど注目を浴びてこなかったが、日本では、複数の論文で紹介されたり、翻刻されたりしてきた。そして、1961年に野間一正（1928-没年不詳）によって、この史料がもう一部、スペイン、グアダラハラ地方のフランシスコ会パストラーナ修道院で発見され、先行研究では当時から現在に至るまで、「京坂信徒代表二十六殉教者列聖請願書」はイタリアのものとスペインのもの計二部存在していると繰り返し言われてきた。本研究では史料の特徴を分析しながら、史料に関する研究調査を行った。最終的には、根拠を示しながら、今までの先行研究の中で生じた誤りを正し、「京坂信徒代表二十六殉教者列聖請願書」は一部しか存在せず、それが現在マドリード市にあるフランシスコ会無原罪の御宿り管区文書館に史料番号AFIO 600-15-1として保管されていることを示す。何故なら、1920年代から50年代の間にフランシスコ会がサンティ・クアランタに保管されていた請願書をローマからパストラーナに移したという事実があるからである。請願書が移動された後に、そのことを知らずに野間一正はイタリアにあったものそのものを「再発見」したのみである。最終的に、唯一の史料はローマからパストラーナを経由し、マドリードへと移された。

  • 明治期における「仏教公認」論とフランスのコンコルダート制度との関係について―藤島了穏を中心に―

    コンコルダート制度とは、1801年7月15日から1905年12月9日までフランスにおいて実施されていた宗教制度である。元々は1801年に当時のフランスの統領ナポレオン・ボナパルトとローマ教皇が結んだ「政教条約（コンコルダート）」から誕生した。そして、翌1802年に、他の宗派、ルター派とカルヴァン派にこの制度の適用範囲を拡大し、1807年には他の宗教、ユダヤ教も承認された。公認された宗教は政府の援助を受けていた。1889年に『大日本帝国憲法』が発布され、仏教界を混乱させた。中でも、第28条によって信教の自由が認められ、キリスト教が正式に容認されたことと、条約改正に伴う外国人の内地雑居とキリスト教の自由伝道、流入が大きな問題とされた。それに対処するため、仏教界は仏教に対する特別な扱いを求めた。つまり、正に公認教運動が展開したのである。この公認教制度の提案によって仏教界は「キリスト教問題」を解決しようとした。つまり、日本特有の宗教である神道と日本仏教のみを「公認教」として認め、政府の援助を受ける一方、キリスト教に対する信教の自由を認めながら、「非公認教」と定め、その拡大を制限するよう求めたのである。この仏教公認教運動の出発点とされているのは1889年9月に井上円了が刊行した『日本政教論』である。円了は1888年に初めて米欧を訪れ、その旅から帰国した後にこの著作を上梓した。しかし、円了の「公認教」論の形成の事情、他学者が円了に与えた影響等に関してはほとんど研究が行われていない。中でも渡仏した先で円了と一時期行動を共にした本願寺派の僧侶、藤島了穏が円了に及ぼした影響について指摘・研究がされていない。藤島は1883年から1889年にかけてフランスに留学し、フランスで哲学及び政教関係を研究したにもかかわらず、全く注目されていない。まだ暫定的な結論しか出ていないが、明治の仏教系雑誌・新聞で最初の調査を行った結果、円了がフランスに行った時に彼の面倒を見たり、案内したりしていた藤島がその頃既に政教関係の研究を始めていたことを示す証明する資料を見つけた。例えば、『令知会雑誌』第62号（1889年5月23日）に掲載された、「在仏国藤島了穏氏の書簡（抄出）」を見ると、「客冬以来専ら政教関係」（27頁）を研究していると記されている。ともかく、この運動をリードしていた円了は仏教界で広く受け入れられ、1890年1月に仏教界が一丸となって政府に建白書を渡すという計画を立てたが、政府による説得を受け、建白書の提出は見送られてしまった。しかし、1899年の条約改正交渉の結果、内地雑居が実施されることになっていたことを懸念していた仏教界は1898-99年に公認教運動を再開した。その際、改めて積極的に参加した井上円了、藤島了穏の活動がほとんど研究されていないので、それも研究テーマにする予定である。そして、この運動に参加した、他の僧侶が唱えた理論、例えば天台宗の村田寂順、日蓮宗本成寺派の古谷日新、大内青巒等の論文も調べたい。

    島田潔（國學院大學）及びアントニオ・ドニャス（上智大学）と共にマドリード市に保管されている、フランシスコ会イベロ・オリエンタル史料コレクションに「AFIO 23-8」として登録されている史料の研究、翻刻、写真、現代語訳及び英訳の準備を進めた。この史料は、キリシタンの既存史料の大半は宣教師によってヨーロッパ人向けにポルトガル語及びスペイン語で書かれたものであるのに対して、ヨーロッパ人の宣教師と日本人信者の協力によって日本人向け（同時にライバルの宣教師向け）に書かれた稀有な史料であり、そこに更にスペイン語の文章が書き加えられている点で、非常にユニークな史料であるといえる。　史料全体はいくつかの部分で構成され、複数の人物により、日本語及びスペイン語で執筆されているが、その内容を簡単にまとめると、1626-7年に東北地方で行われたイエズス会とフランシスコ会、つまりキリスト教宣教師同士の教義及び布教の権利を巡る論争である。時代的には、まさに日本においてキリスト教が衰退し、本格的な迫害を受けていた時代であり、全ての外国人宣教師の死、追放、背教によって、日本からキリスト教がほとんど姿を消したのは、この直後のことであった。　殉教が始まると共にイエズス会と托鉢修道会（フランシスコ会、ドミニコ会、アウグスティヌス会）の摩擦は大きくなり、互いにその迫害の責任をなすりつけ続けた。それのみならず、イエズス会と托鉢修道会の間で殉教の概念、その重要性が多少異なっていた。簡単に言えば、イエズス会は殉教をそこまでに強調せずに、できるだけ日本での布教の成果を保とうとしたのに対し、托鉢修道会は殉教に力点を置き、それに向かって日本の信者の精神的な準備を行おうとした。したがって、この史料は神学的な論文でありながら、フランシスコ会の宣教活動に対するイエズス会の批判からは、日本におけるイエズス会と各托鉢修道会との間で起こった宗派論争を知ることができるという点で、史料としての歴史的な価値を持っている。この東北における論争は、日本、ローマ（バチカン）、スペインの宮廷で行われた日本での布教の権利をめぐるイエズス会と托鉢修道会との大規模な論争の一章に過ぎないが、全体像を明らかにするためには重要である。

  • 16・17世紀のスペイン人宣教師資料に見られる異宗教理解

    本研究課題の目標はスペイン人(西洋人・キリスト教信者)の異文化・異宗教理解を分析することであった。具体的には、16世紀前後のスペイン人宣教師が見たアメリカ原住民の宗教・文化、と16・17世紀のスペイン人宣教師が見た日本の宗教・文化に関する資料を比較する。主な比較対象は以下の二つの資料である。一つは、「12修道士の対話」と呼ばれている1524年に行われたフランシスコ会修道士とアステカ人の代表者との「対話」を記録した書物であり、もう一方は、「山口の討論」と呼ばれている1551年に行われたイエズス会と仏教僧との「討論」を写している書簡である。研究の成果としては、先ず宣教師達が自身の宗教、キリスト教をどのように異宗教の信者に紹介しているかを分析した。更に、相手の宗教をどのように評価しているかを解釈した。最後に、その二つの資料に見られる類似点及び相違点を分析し、メキシコ・日本の伝道活動に当たり行った異宗教信者との「宗教会談」について再考した。
