    This project aims to inquire into the world of the seafaring persons in the 18th and 19th centuries. They were the persons who lived their lives related to the sea and moved around the world by ship and changed human activities and lives in the oceans. This global circulations of them tells us about a different history from our conventional historical view based on continental history, so to speak terra‐centrism history. Their history suggests us comparatively more fluid and diversified societies. By challenging the widely believed historical views and proposing new views based on oceanic history, we found unique examples of various seafaring persons in all levels.

    This study examined the development of the liquor retailing in the rural areas of France in the late 18th century, taking Brittany as an example. First, rural taverns were opened in market towns which served as a distribution hub. In addition, in rural taverns, there were ones that were opened throughout the year and ones that were held along with fairs and festivals. Second, alcoholic beverages sold at rural taverns were mainly wine in the eastern and western of the Brittany peninsula and cider in the central peninsula. Third, those who consumed alcohol at taverns were mainly self-growing farmers and agricultural workers who lived in the parish, and merchants who came from outside the parish for fairs.

    　本研究課題は、18世紀フランスのカリブ海植民地における沿岸貿易の実態について調査することを目的として実施された。申請者は、フランス国立公文書館に所蔵されている植民地関係文書を収集して読み解き、その結果次のようなことが明らかとなった。18世紀初頭において、フランス本国で用いられる「沿岸貿易 cabotage」という文言は植民地においては一般的ではなく、18世紀後半になって定着した。マルティニーク島やグアドループ島、フランス領サン＝ドマングでは、島々をつなぐ交易が活発に行われたが、それは、本国との遠隔地貿易のリズムと連動した。18世紀末になると、カリブ海諸島の交易相手として、アメリカ合衆国の重要性が大きくなった。

    　本研究課題は、18世紀フランス内陸部における海産物の流通と消費について解明することを目的として実施された。申請者は、ブルターニュ産塩漬けイワシの流通に関わった貿易商人について調査し、その結果次のようなことが明らかとなった。18世紀初頭、ラングドック地方の沿岸部においてイワシが減少したが、この地域のイワシ需要は高いままだった。この高い需要を満たすため、ラングドック地方の貿易商人はボルドーとブルターニュ沿岸港に移住してネットワークを形成し、塩漬けイワシの生産と流通全てに関わるようになった。ブルターニュ産塩漬けイワシは、ボルドーからトゥルーズを経由してリヨンや地中海側のセットまで運ばれた。

    　本研究課題は、18世紀フランスの大西洋沿岸で行われたイワシ漁と塩漬けイワシの流通構造について解明することを目的として実施された。申請者は、塩漬けイワシの生産と輸送の基地となっていたブルターニュ地方のコンカルノーの港湾活動を調査し、その結果次のようなことが明らかとなった。その結果、18世紀におけるイワシ漁の発展と塩漬けイワシ商業の発展により、船乗りたちの活動がイワシ漁に集中し、輸送業と漁業の分業が進行していたことがわかった。また、塩漬けイワシ生産に必要な食塩の需要が高まり、それによってナントの重要性が高くなっていった。成果は、 « Les activités portuaires de Concarneau au XVIIIe siècle»として、フランス語の論文集の中で出版される予定である。

    　本研究課題は、科学研究費（若手研究（B））の研究課題と関連するものであり、18世紀フランスの農村における居酒屋業の実態について調査し、農村における消費のあり方について考察することを目的とした。　　申請者は、ブルターニュ地方において地方三部会の税として徴収されたドゥヴォワール税の徴税記録および都市の入市税記録を収集、分析し、農村の酒類流通について解明した。また、その成果の一部を第116回史学会大会西洋史部会（2018年11月25日）で報告した。　　また、2019年3月17日から3月24日にかけてフランスのパリにある国立公文書館Archives Nationalesを訪問し、資料調査を行なった。

    　本研究は、まず、葡萄酒の流通と18世紀フランス経済の発展との関連について調査した。また、その成果を、2015年7月に行われた帝国史研究会にて、「18世紀フランス領マスカリン諸島における葡萄酒とラム酒」というタイトルで報告した。　次に、酒税記録というこれまで専ら財政史で用いられた史料から得られる数量データによって、都市と農村における消費行動の違いを測定しようと試みた。2015年8月後半から9月上旬の約３週間、フランスへ調査旅行を行い、史料の収集を行った。居酒屋に関する記録によれば、都市と農村で消費行動の違いが見られた。葡萄酒は都市で消費され、農村ではシードルというリンゴ酒が消費された。
