    The upper and lower complex interpolation of Bu W(Lp)-spaces and Bu W(Mp q)-spaces are considered. When u0, u1 and u are finite, we prove that [Bu0 w0(Lp0), Bu1 w1(Lp1)]θ = [Bu0 w0(Lp0), Bu1 W1(Lp1)]θ = Bu W(Lp). Otherwise, the space [Bu0 w0(Lp0), Bu1 w1(Lp1)]θ is a closed subspace of Bu W(Lp). We also establish interpolation results of certain closed subspaces of Bu W(Lp)-spaces and Bu W(Mp q)-spaces, which are the closure of linear subspaces satisfying the lattice condition.

    We introduce B-w(u)-function spaces which unify Lebesgue, Morrey-Campanato, Lipschitz, B-P, CMO, local Morrey-type spaces, etc., and investigate the interpolation property of B-w(u)-function spaces. We also apply it to the boundedness of linear and sublinear operators, for example, the Hardy-Littlewood maximal and fractional maximal operators, singular and fractional integral operators with rough kernel, the Littlewood-Paley operator, Marcinkiewicz operator, and so on.

  • 数学を題材とした英語教育の進め方について

    本年度も開講した「英語と数学の読み方」の講義は、導入が容易な「数学ゲーム」を題材としている。英語による解説動画から情報の受け取り方について知り、実際にゲームをプレイして内容に対するコンテクストの重要性を体験させた。次に図書館などで閲覧が容易な大辞典クラス程度を参考に、単語の語義をできる限り検討させ、文章を味わわせた。これは教養教育における語学教育の意義を受講者に感じさせることとなった。また自動翻訳システムを体験させた。システムによる日本語の翻訳文があっても、それで内容がわかる訳ではないこと、また得られた翻訳文が「正しい」かについて判断する能力が必要であることを受講者に実感させることができた。

    数学を題材にして英語を学ぶ科目「英語と数学の読み方」は、2020年度はすべてオンライン講義であったが、今年度はすべてを対面で行った。表面的な内容を伝えるには授業形態による差異はみられなかったが、本講義の特質である「数学という言語・それを取り巻く環境・文化」を伝えるためにはオンライン授業においては大きな違いがあった。特に「数学的なコミュニケーション」については学生に深く味わわせることは困難であった。具体的には、秋学期開講科目では「対戦型の数学的ゲーム」が題材で、その段階で履修者同士が実際に対戦してそのゲームをいわば「体験・観察」してそれを学ぶことにしているが、前年度は上手くいかなかった内容が今年度はスムーズに進み、その違いが明らかになった。

  • 英語教育における数学教材のあり方について

    今年度はコロナ禍の関係で授業形態がオンラインになったことから、それを逆手にとって授業において複数のオンライン翻訳システムの比較検討を行った。自動翻訳システムは文章の意味を理解しているわけではないということは必ずしも知られているわけではない。人文学・社会科学の分野においてはそうした自動翻訳システムの性能を高く評価する意見も聞くが、数学的な文章を機械翻訳のシステムに入れても、その内容が伝わるような訳文を得られるケースが余り多くなかった。このことを通じて、数学教材は語学を学ぶ大きな意義－文章の持つ意味を知り、またそれを伝えること－を学習者に実感させることができることが明らかになった。

  • 英語教材としての数学テキストの研究

    数学を題材にした英語学習のための教材はインターネット上にいくつも見られる。しかしそれらは１）単に数学の色々なトピックごとの講義動画を挙げているもの２）大学教育にふさわしいレベルとは言えないもの ３）英語教育に資するとは思えないもの が大半であった。単に数学のトピックを解説するだけでは語学としては興味を持ちにくい。逆に内容として易しすぎるものは数多くあったが、ヒアリング教材として使えそうなものは少ない。ネット上の教材のほか書籍についても検討したが、なかなか良いものには巡り会っていない。

    英語を話すことが得意でない授業者が英語で数学の授業を提供できるようにするために，Powerpoint のアニメーション機能にフリーの英語読み上げソフトによる音声ファイルを作成して張り込むことで、講義動画を作成した。（約40分×7回×2科目）その際に数学として留意することは、簡単な作図や計算を学習者にたくさん行わせて感覚的に理解させることであり、それを通じて英語の構文や論理構成などになれることが効果を上げることが明らかになった。
