    本研究は当初の予定より、約１年分、進捗が遅れている。申請時の計画では、今年度は主に以下の２点に取り組むことを記載していた。➀収集した発話データを用いて発話自動採点システムの構築に取り組む。その過程において，自動評価と評定者６名による人手評価の一致率を調べ，本システムの予測精度を検証する。次に、②その結果を基にDCTの内容や評価基準の精査を行い，CBT（改訂版）を設計する。今年度は➀を中心に進め、②の着手には至っていない。前年度に収集した音声データの書き起こし、採点基準の精査、採点業務を中心に進めた。合計で３種類の談話完成タスクを実施しており、それぞれに２００～２４０名分の音声データが存在するため、作業の遂行に多くの時間を要した。音声データの書き起こしは、研究代表者１名，大学院生２名（英検1級取得者），英語話者教員（研究協力者）1名の４名体制で進めた。採点基準の精査は、まず、英語話者２名（研究協力者）と研究代表者の３名でワークショップを開き、ランダムに抽出した３０名分のデータを採点し、スコアの乖離についての協議ならびに採点者間の信頼性係数の確認を行った。その後、採点業務に進み、研究代表者，大学院生２名（英検1級取得者），英語話者教員(研究協力者）２名の５名体制で取り組んだ。作業完了後に、研究分担者とのワークショップ・検討会議（オンライン）を開き、最終年度である2021年度に、音響モデルの構築と自動採点システム（CBT）の実用化（ソフトウェア化）に以下に取り組むことを確認した。

    本研究の目的は英語学習者のパフォーマンス評価において、第二言語習得研究、学習者コーパス研究、言語テスト研究で得られた知見を活用し、自動採点システムを構築することである。そして、自動採点システム構築で得られた知見を関連分野に還元するものである。特に、第二言語習得研究の発展分野である教授法研究において、学習者のパフォーマンスを定量的に捉える研究は進んでおらず、また、言語テスト研究で得られた知見が十分に活かされているとは言い難い。一方で自動採点に関する研究は、第二言語習得、言語テストの知見が活かされるべき分野であるが、これも部分的にしか実現されていない。本研究の目的はこれらの分野の橋渡しをすることである。研究初年度である2018年度ではこれまでの構築された学習者コーパスの中から自動採点システムの構築に利用可能なコーパスの選定を行なった。2019年度では、第二言語習得研究および学習者コーパス研究で使用されている学習者のパフォーマンスを捉えられると考えられている特徴量を先行研究から選定した。それらの妥当性を検討した。また、これまでの研究では学習者のパフォーマンスを捉える際に学習者の発話、文に対して統語構造を解析した上で特徴量を抽出することは稀であったが、昨今の技術の発展により学習者言語であってもある程度の精度を保って統語構造を解析できるようになった。学習者言語の統語構造の解析に関しても妥当性の検証を行なった。これらの知見を活かし、2019年度ではコーパス構築を目的とする研究グループ2つと協働し、日本の高校生の話し言葉、書き言葉コーパスを構築した。話し言葉コーパスに関してはほぼ完成し、論文として発表した。書き言葉コーパスは2020年度以降を目処に発表予定である。本研究の基礎的段階である学習者コーパスの選定、学習者のパフォーマンスを捉える特徴量に関する先行研究の整理が完了し、コーパス構築研究のチームと協働しコーパスを構築した。2019年度まで予定していたことはに関しては当初の計画通り進行している。2020年度以降は、本研究で行なったこれまでの活動から得られた知見を活かし、自動採点システムの構築を行う。また、2019年度の成果に関しても発表、公開の準備を進める。これまで行なった研究活動で得られた知見を活かし、2020年度、2021年度では自動採点システムを構築し、その発表を行う。また、この自動採点システム構築で得られた知見を関連分野に還元できるよう発表、公開を行う

    In the midst of the growing demand for increased international competitiveness in various academic fields, the ability to write about research results in English is a key factor in each discipline. However, there are various constraints and limitations to the teaching of English writing for specific disciplines in the classroom. Therefore, we have developed and been using an English academic writing support tool as a supplement to their instruction in and out of the classroom. The present study aimed to improve and extend this tool, and to develop teaching methods and materials that utilize the tool. Specifically, we (1) added more disciplines and ragged research papers, (2) improved the tool, and (3) used the tool in and out of the classroom. The results of our research have been published in papers and at international conferences.

    In this research, we developed English vocabulary tests to investigate ‘depth of vocabulary knowledge’based on the information such as antonym, synonym, prototypical grammatical structures in the verbs, related words, chunks, word frequency in usage, and collocations. Through some trial phases of the vocabulary tests, we analyzed the collected data by Item Response theory and Latent Rank Theory, and we produced vocabulary tests to examine learner's ‘depth of vocabulary knowledge'. We created CGI in order to enable the test-takers to take the tests on the web. We also created feedback system to the test-takers, which can provide the test-takers with some advice to learn English vocabulary

    The purpose of this study is to develop an automated speech scoring system for learners of English, applying the speech recognition technology that recently used on personal computers and smart phone. The system automatically scores learners' speech elicited by Discourse Completion Task where learners are required to speak in a situation. The degree of accuracy of speech recognition depends heavily on a situation and contents of speaking. In the tasks with the high degree of accuracy of recognition, the system produces reliable scores, which means that the system edges closer to practical use.

    English should be taught as a lingua franca in Asia. This means that shifting the traditional model from that of a native speaker to a bilingual model. Instead of deriving linguistic benchmarks from a native speaker, communication styles and pragmatic norms can be derived from successful bilinguals in Asia.     The purpose of this study is to build an automatic L2 speech evaluation system which predicts evaluation scores given by experienced teachers who are L2 users. The predictability of the evaluation scores by speech characteristics of learner performance data is investigated in two types of speech.     The main purposes of this research are two-folds (1) to examine English vocabulary with similar meanings which are easy for Japanese L2 learners to misunderstand; that is, English words which require the L2 learners to re-categorize the concepts in the learning process ; and (2) to develop a IRT-based vocabulary test to measure L2 leaner's vocabulary knowledge on the depth of vocabulary knowledge. We developed the three test sets : (1) a test with items including English basic verbs such as 'hear' and 'listen', (2) a test with items including English basic adjectives, and (3) a test with items including collocations with relate to English basic verbs. The number of items using in the developed vocabulary tests was limited because items should include English words to examine re-categorization in concepts and be available for novice L2 learners. However, there are a few vocabulary tests to examine vocabulary knowledge from the viewpoint of conceptual re-categorization. This kind of vocabulary test we developed in this research can contribute to vocabulary teaching and English education

    受検者がある状況で求められる短い発話を促される談話完成タスクを利用して日本人英語学習者の発話を自動的に採点するシステムを構築することが本研究の目的である。自動採点の方法は、すでに得られた音声データの特徴量と音声データに付与された評価値との関係を検証し、何らかの予測方法を選択し、新たな受検者の音声データの特徴量から評価を予測するという方法を用いる。本発表では、談話完成タスク約60問を利用して収集したデータを用いて、特徴量の選択、予測方法などを検討し、このシステムの実現可能性を報告する。

    多様化する教育スタイルに柔軟に対応し教育効果を向上させるためにもモバイル環境への対応は必須と考えられる。早稲田大学オープン教育センターで行っているDiscussion Tutorial Englishは講師1人に対し学生6人の少人数制の授業で、新聞の記事などを読み、これをもとに議論できる能力を育成する授業である。この科目で使用しているPC、スマートフォンなど端末を選ばない予習教材の利用状況について昨年度より調査を行っているが、昨年度の調査では端末による利用状況の違いがないことが分かった。今年度も同科目でこのシステムの学習効果を検証した。この結果を報告するとともにタブレット端末、モバイル端末を利用した英語学習の可能性について論じる。

    本研究の目的は、談話完成タスク(DCT)を用いた英語学習者の発話自動採点システムを構築することである。発話自動採点は音声認識技術に依存しており、その精度は採点の精度に影響する。本研究では、日本人英語学習者からDCTを用いて発話データを収集し、この発話データと既存の第一言語発話データベースおよび日本人学生による読み上げ英語音声データベース の発話データを用いて隠れマルコフモデルに基づく音響モデルを、それぞれの項目で2-gramを採用し言語モデルを構築し、自動音声認識を行った。評認識率は項目によって異なるが、おおむね認識率70％から90％の間であった。

    英語学習者の発話能力の評価・測定は、多くの時間的、人的コストがかかり、さらに、訓練を受けた評定者でも評価のばらつきを排除することは困難である。これらの問題を解決するために、学習者の発話能力を精緻に測定できる自動採点システムの開発が近年行われている。本報告者は科学研究費補助金の助成を受け、アジア人英語学習者の読み上げ文の発話を収集し、読み上げ文における発話の特徴と評定者による評価の関係を検証し、そのデータベースを公開した。また、このデータベースを利用し、学習者の読み上げ文の採点をWeb上で自動的に行うシステムを開発した。これまでの研究成果を踏まえ、本研究では談話完成タスク(Discourse Completion Task: DCT)を用いて発話データを収集し、この発話に訓練を受けた評定者が評価値を付与し、発話の特徴量と評価値の関係を検証し、発話の特徴量から法価値を予測する方法を検討した。本研究では、学習者に設定を与え発話を促すDCTを採用し、ネットワークを介して発話データを収集するシステムを構築した。この評価値と学習者の発話の特徴量（ポーズの長さ、話す速さなど）の関係を検証し、発話の特徴量のみから評価値を予測する方法を検討した。オープン教育センターが設置するTutorial Englishはヨーロッパ言語共通参照枠をもとに授業内容、レベルなどが設定されているが、本研究では、このレベルに則り、それぞれのレベルでタスクを作成した。ネットワークを介して発話データを収集するシステムを構築し、音声データ提供者を募り、このタスクを用いて約100人の日本人英語学習者から音声データを収集した。発話の総数は約12000発話であった。作成したタスクを用いて発話データベースを構築し、収集した発話データを書き起こし、音声認識のための言語モデルを作成した。発話の特徴量を精査し、自動採点の方法を教師の評定を予測するもの、教師の評定なしで評価を与えるものの両方を検討したところ、教師による評定なしでもある程度正確な採点ができる可能性が示唆された。

  • アジア英語の音韻規則に関する研究

    研究代表者は、第二言語の発話能力を測定する規準をCommon European Framework of Reference(CFER)に求め、アジアの英語学習者の評価においてCEFRの応用可能性を検討し、さらに、第二言語の発話能力の評価において、客観的測定値と主観的評価値の関係を解明し、自動評価システムの構築を目指している。この研究では、Multi faceted Rasch measurementで推定した主観的評価に基づく能力値が、客観的評価項目であるWPMとFilled-pauseによってかなりの程度推測できることが分かった。ただし、母音や子音の質などの主観的評価項目に対応する客観的評価項目が未解析のものもあるため、それらの項目の分析を加えることにより、どの程度客観的項目を利用しただけの推定値の精度が高まるかを今後検討している。また、より能力値の高い推定ができる客観的項目を確定することにより、自動音声評価などの、客観的測定値にのみによるスピーチの評価への応用可能性を検討している。本研究課題においては、タイ人英語学習者に対象を絞り、音韻規則に関する基礎的な研究を行った。タイ人英語学習者と日本人英語学習者では、母語の音韻規則にない英語の分節音また子音連結などで、その対処の方法が異なる。このように母語によって影響がことなる学習者の発音に関して、発話の評定者にどのような偏りがあるかを実験により検討した。結果は、発音における熟達度の発達が上記研究で解明された発音以外の要素と強く関係していることが分かり、分節音や子音連結において異なる母語の影響が発話能力の全体評価に影響を考慮に入れなくても評価が可能であることが示唆された。
