    <p>What kind of narrative function does the preface to Taihei-ki have? While the story is written under the influence of several religious philosophies, why is the preface so exclusively based on Confucianism? A preface works not only as a synopsis of the story but also as a mirror that more directly reflects the dominant ideology of the age than the main text itself. Indeed, the historical epic is actually a political book that shows the way of governing a country. Thus it is just because Confucianism was then the authorized religious philosophy of the government that it gives a privilege to that particular religion.</p>

    Nan-taihei-ki by Imagawa-Ryoshun is a sort of annotation on Taihei-ki in which the process of making the chronicle is described in detail. But its ambiguous note on the Battle of Rokuhara has caused a controversy over who wrote Taihei-ki, Keichin or Gene. The editorial arrangement of the note on the battle as well as his intention of annotating, however, seems to show that Ryoshun thought Keichin was the author. In proving this, I will also try an interpretation of the controversial phrase in the book: "The author was an important person in the Southern Dynasty."

    The aim of this essay is to trace the origin of the earliest version of Taihei-ki back to the three earlier texts, that is, Meitoku-ki, Nan-Taiheiki, and Baisho-ron. The last part of Meitoku-ki, the article on the memorial service at Shokoku Temple, is remarkably similar in its plot and narrative structure to the earliest Taihei-ki. From the article through Nan-Taiheiki and Baisho-ron, the two other texts also written under the patronage of the family of General Ashikaga, what can be called ur-Taihei-ki must have been developed. Apart from examining the relations between the four texts, I will also point out differences between ur-Taihei-ki and its current edition.

    In this study, we considered the relationship between the political situation in the 1370s and various books of Taiheiki. We also investigated the relationship between the acceptance of Japanese classical literature and Chinese literature in various books of Taiheiki and the literary environment of samurai and Zen Buddhist temples. In addition, we considered the reason why Taiheiki was read in the Muromachi era from the aspect of the intellect and self-recognition of the people of this era.

    From the 14th century to the 17th century, I studied what type of book was recognized as "Taiheiki".In order to clarify this fact, I mainly carried out research from three viewpoints.The first is research on processes with various texts.The second focused on the way the emperor was drawn, and made a detailed reading of the text.Third, I thought about how "Taiheiki" was being read.
    As a result of this research, it was found that the characteristics of the text generation in the 15th century were specifically left in Kandabon "Taiheiki".In addition, it could be pointed out that the theory that "Taishiki" is a public history book of the Muromachi shogunate is suspicious.Furthermore, it was possible to clarify that the unique type of Tenshobon "Taiheiki" existed around the eighth general Shogun Ashikaga Yoshimasa.

    The conventional way of studying Taiheiki’s author has been via signs and evidence external to the text. Here I distance myself from that method and work to clarify the political stance and knowledge base of Taiheiki’s author through clues within the text.
    Kotaibon (old form variants) are indispensable for the feasibility of this methodology. Accordingly, I examine the Kandabon variant, which is thought to retain a large degree of characteristics belonging to kotaibon variants. I conclude that the Kandabon does not necessarily retain all of those characteristics.

  • 軍記物語享受資料の発掘と基礎的研究

    中世文学作品にはまだまだ知られていない資料が数多くある。それらの中には、突如古書店から販売される場合もある。本研究期間にも、そういった書店等から現れた資料を二点見いだした。一つは室町時代の書写とされている伝一条冬良筆『平家物語』断簡、もう一つは近世初期の筆と推定される奈良絵本の幸若舞曲『伏見常葉』を貼った屏風である。前者は連れが数葉紹介されていて、一方系周辺の本文かと考えられているものであるが、今回発見した断簡によりその特異な姿を知ることが出来ることとなった。後者は本文の末尾が欠損していて特徴を明確にすることが難しいが、近世初期の伝存例は多くないことから、今後の研究に大いに資する資料であることは疑いない。

  • 織田本『太平記』の基礎的研究

    西源院本系の本文を有する天正年間に書写された古写本、織田本『太平記』の本文についての基礎的な研究を行った。この織田本は西源院本の転写本であるとされてきたために、しっかりとした研究がなされてこなかった。しかしながら、西源院本原本が焼失し、その転写本とされてきた東京大学史料編纂所本も問題が多いことが判明した以上、この織田本の重要性は顧みられねばならなくなった。申請者は、このような問題意識から織田本本文の詳細な検討を行っている。現時点では、織田本は西源院本の転写本ではなく共通の祖本から派生した親戚関係にあるということ、織田本の書写は正確で西源院本の誤脱を補える箇所が散見されることなどを確認している。

  • 本文異同から探る南北朝時代における『太平記』の享受についての研究

    論文「物語と前近代の日本の地域社会ーー架蔵『太平記』絵巻の紹介と位置付け」の前半部では、南北朝時代・室町時代初期における『太平記』の生成と享受の問題について論じた。また、口頭発表「『太平記』と武家――南北朝・室町時代を中心に――」（国際日本文化研究センター共同研究会&nbsp;&nbsp;2018年11月17日）では、『太平記』の本文異同と南北朝時代・室町時代の守護大名との関係について、天正本の研究史を整理検証しながら論じた。同じく口頭発表「物語と前近代の日本の地域社会――架蔵『太平記』絵巻の紹介と位置付け――」（第10回東アジア人文学フォーラム&nbsp; 2018年12月16日）の詳細は、前掲論文を参照されたい。

  • 『明徳記』の研究――初期足利政権周辺の文学作品研究の一環として――

    　本研究は次の三点を柱に進めている。　１，『明徳記』再稿本（陽明文庫本系）の校本の作成。　２，『明徳記』再稿本の表現世界の検討と作成目的の考察。　３，『太平記』や『明徳記』など、南北朝から室町初期の軍記、および享受資料の発掘と位置付け。　本年は、『明徳記』の諸本調査を進め、主に再稿本の校本作成を行った。再稿本は岩波文庫に収められているが、誤りが多いため読みやすい正確なテキストが必要とされており、また、前田尊経閣所蔵の版本に写された同系統の本文との比較検討もされておらず、研究を進める上での基礎が整えられていないと考えたからである。　なお、この他に新出の『太平記』絵巻を発見したので、校本と合わせて、近く発表したいと考えている。

  • 室町時代書写奥書を有する『太平記』諸本の研究―吉川家本を中心に―

    　永禄六年～八年の奥書を有する吉川元春書写本『太平記』（以下、吉川家本『太平記』）は、現在、山口県岩国市の吉川史料館の所蔵となっている。この本は、書写者と書写年時が明らかな中世の写本であり、また、本文の性格も特徴的であることから注目されてきたが、本文検討・作品世界の追究など、まだ検討しなくてはならない課題が多く残されている。特に最近では、毛利・吉川家周辺に複数の『太平記』伝本が存在していたことが具体的に明らかにされてきたことから、室町時代の武将の『太平記』享受を具体的に知る上でも吉川家本の詳細な検討は再度なされるべきであると考えられる。　このような状況をふまえた上で、吉川家本の考察に取り組んでいるのであるが、本年は主に本文の性格を文献学的方法によって整理することに主眼をおいた。すなわち、吉川史料館に赴き原本を調査・書誌を整理したほか、本文の校合から諸本間における吉川家本の位置を探ることを試みた。この作業は完了したわけではないが、これまでの調査に於いても、いくつか注目・検討すべき問題点も見つかった。例えば巻二十一「塩冶判官讒死事」は諸本間でもっとも移動が激しい箇所の一つであるが、吉川家本の当該箇所の位置づけは再考の必要があるように思われる。従来、吉川家本は古態本の一つである西源院本本文が形成される過程の姿を残したものといわれてきた。しかしながら最近、吉川家本の兄弟本と位置づけられる國學院大學蔵益田本の調査からこの説を見直す見解が出され、私も同様の結論に至った。そこで私なりの視点から後者の説を補強し、さらには次のような私見も加えるつもりである。すなわち、吉川家本は西源院本と他本の混合本文と考えられ、しかも、西源院本と極めて近い部分にも、現存西源院本にはなくその兄弟本と思しき伝本の詞章を引き継いでいるというものである。この成果の一部は近いうちに報告するつもりである。　今年度の成果は大略以上のようにまとめられるが、今後とも諸本を広く見渡しつつ本文検討を続け、さらには作品を読み込むことから、吉川元春と同じ『太平記』の世界を解明し、室町時代の武将の『太平記』世界を追求していきたい。
