    In ...but the clouds..., the ritualistic movements of M1 culminate in his conjuring of a woman who quotes from "The Tower," the poem in which W. B. Yeats, who was profoundly influenced by Japanese noh theatre, evokes a number of ghosts. In this study, I demonstrate that Beckett was influenced in his writing of ...but the clouds... both by the highly stylised mugen noh - the noh of dreams and phantoms - and Yeats's experience of noh.

    本研究では貴重な脚本を収集し脚本家に焦点をあてたオーラルヒストリーを実施。インタビューや脚本を公開するWeb版「脚本クロニクル」を作成する。脚本の体系化により①放送史を読み解き、②当時の経済・家族関係などをとらえ、③言語学の見地より言葉の変遷も可視化できる。また④映像と脚本の対比研究、創作やセリフ実演等を教育現場で試行し、国語やコミュニケーション教育での実用化を検討する。さらに「脚本クロニクル」を多言語化し日本の放送文化アーカイブとして国際発信を目指す。このサイトにより脚本家の時代背景や社会現象を可視化でき、放送と社会の相関関係を社会学的見地からも考察する。(1)一次資料としての資料保存（散逸の危機にある現物脚本の救済とオーラルヒストリーの継承）……放送脚本を収集保存し、公共機関等で一般公開することは「脚本アーカイブズ活動」と位置付けられる。本研究においては、脚本アーカイブズ活動およびその活用研究

    The aim of this research was to suggest that prominent writers in Prague and Dublin in the early 20th century, such as Kafka, Rilke, Yeats, Joyce and Beckett, were obsessed by the German literary idea of "Sprach-Krise" or crisis of language. In order to prove the interrelation of these writers, first, we have made it clear that many aspects of "Sprach-Krise" were evident in their poetics. Then, by comparing their poetics, we have come to understand how they tried to overcome the problem of ineffability through mystical experiences in their own ways. Finally, we have discovered that Mauthner, who had an extremely nominalistic view of language, exhibited great influence on Joyce and Beckett. Through critical analyses of the texts by Joyce and Beckett, we can conclude that it is via Vico's philosophy that Mauthner and these Irish writers are closely related. Thus, our research helps to elucidate the genealogy of "Sprach-Krise", one of the greatest literary themes in the 20th century

    本研究の目的は、アイルランド演劇の総合的研究を推進するとともに、研究拠点を拡充し国際的に活躍しうる若手の人材を育成することにある。2013年度の若手支援としては、ベケット研究者で研究協力者の菊池慶子の国際演劇学会における研究発表を経済的に支援した。
    研究代表者の岡室は、ベケットの演劇が東日本大震災後の日本をはじめ世界中の危機的状況で上演されてきた事実に着目し、これまでのメディア論的観点からのベケット研究を発展させ、「ベケットと共生」というテーマに取り組んだ。その成果は、ローマ市立演劇記念館で開催されたベケット展での講演、および岩波書店『文学』2014年3月・4月号巻頭に掲載された論文に結実した。また、春期休暇中に集中的にベケット・ゼミを開催し、若手研究者とともに大量の関連資料を検討するとともに早稲田大学坪内博士記念演劇博物館と連携し、来年度のベケット展の開催を目指して、これまでの研究成果の社会還元の方法

    Our project encompassed research in, as well as the promotion of, scholarship on contemporary Irish theatre. Our research investigated the plays of Samuel Beckett, Frank McGuinness, and others from the viewpoints of soundscape, modernism, occultism, audio-visual technology, and Irish history, yielding studies included in varied international publications. We furthermore established, as activities of the International Research Centre on Irish Theatre, the Research Circle of Irish Theatre and the Beckett Seminar, which facilitate Irish theatre scholarship in Japan and promote academic exchange through journals and international conferences between Japanese scholars and their counterparts abroad.

Hiroko Mikami(20181860, Waseda University, Faculty of International Liberal Studies, Professor) served as lead investigator of the project in 2006. Minako Okamuro assumed this role in 2007, as Mikami was on sabbatical leave.
    The project has encompassed the following three activities :
    1. Study of Irish theater from multiple viewpoints. Mikami focused on the plays of Thomas Murphy and Frank McGuinness, and Okamuro on those of Samuel Beckett and William Butler Yeats. Moreover the project resulted in the publication of a collection of essays, developed from a preceding research project(Grant-in-Aid for Scientific Research B[153200401, 2003-2005), on Irish theater; the collection, Ireland on Stage : Beckett and After(Dublin : Carysfort Press, 2007), was edited by Hiroko Mikami, Minako Okamuro, and Naoko Yagi, and includes contributions by such leading Irish scholars as Declan Kiberd, Anthony Roche, and Christopher Mur

    Both Mikami and Yagi read a paper at the annual conference of the IASIL (the International Association for the Study of Irish Literatures) held at Charles University in Prague in July. Mikami examined the receptions of Martin McDonagh's plays in Japan and traced two different lines, the Shingeki (new theatre) movement and the Shogekijo (little theatre) movement, showing each is the way to grasp the quintessence of his works. Yagi introduced a new notion of 'Irish "space" on the stage', which may have a double-meaning as both physical and conceptual entities, examining the plays by McGuinness, Carr and McPherson.
    Mikami and Yagi then moved to Dublin, Ireland, in order to hold seminars on Irish Theatre for three days in August, inviting authorities in this field as guest speakers : Minako Okamuro, Christopher Murray, Noreen Doody, Joseph Long, Anthony Roche, Declan Kiberd, and Cathy Leeny. The outcome of the seminars would be published as a collection of essays, titled 'Staging Ireland'. (We are negotiating with a publisher in Ireland at the moment.)

    Light has yet to be fully shed upon the alchemical aspects of Beckett's early writings. A careful examination of his works, however, reveals within them a number of such allusions. Although he never referred directly to either alchemy or its influence on him, the possibility of his interest in it is undeniable given the attraction of alchemy for his foregoers and contemporaries such as Dante, Girdai 10 Bruno, William Butler Yeats, James Joyce and Carl Gustav Jung as well as some French surrealists, and their use of it as a creative metaphor in their writings. In this study I could expose the hidden alchemical images in Beckett's writings and see how they lead us to another dimension of Beckett's world.Beckett's writings are full of allusions to alchemy. For example, the movement in Quad can be regarded as a representation of a central idea of alchemy insofar as the four players revolving in the square reflect the four elements circulating in the alchemical process. Such alchemical images are, like anamorphoses, invisible when seen straight from the front. Once we shift our viewpoint, the hidden dimension emerges.     性的マイノリティを主軸に置いた近年のドラマの中には良質な作品もあるものの、その異質性を際立たせたり、一つの「ブーム」として消費するような表現も散見される。むしろ問題は、そうしたテーマを取り上げることで、制作者側にも視聴者側にも、異性愛を一般的な「規範」「標準」とする従来の価値観を実は温存しつつ、あたかも性的マイノリティを社会的に認知したかのような錯覚を生じさせる点にあると言える。逆に、性的マイノリティをドラマの一部として取り上げる作品の中には、脚本家ら作り手の、多様性を受容し自らの問題として引き受ける思想が垣間見えるものが見られ、それらは、無意識的な差別や偏見に対する批評として機能しうる。

  • 「芸術ジャンル間の越境という視点から見たテレビ文化の研究」

    　本研究課題は、映画や演劇など近接する芸術諸ジャンルとの境界を越境しつつ芸術性の高いテレビドラマの創作に携わった脚本家や演出家に焦点を当て、彼らがいかにテレビに固有の表現方法を発見してきたかを明らかにすることを目的とするものである。そこで山田太一、今野勉、和田勉らを幅広く研究し、テレビドラマ史の再構築を試みた。1960年代において和田や今野らが不条理劇やアングラ演劇ときわめて近い距離にあったことが明らかになり、ベケットやブレヒトら海外の演劇からの影響も視野に入れるべきという知見を得た。岡室はまた、ヒッチコックがベケットの映画とテレビドラマに影響を与えた可能性をめぐる研究に着手し研究発表を行った。

  • 1930年代から40年代に『トランジション』誌に発表された作品群にみられるサミュエル・ベケットの思想的変遷に関する考察

    ベケットの思想的・文学的変遷を辿る上で決して無視できないのが雑誌『トランジション』である。ベケットは1929年から50年にかけて同誌に数編の詩・評論・小説・翻訳等を投稿している。当時の『トランジション』は、ジョイスの「進行中の作品」（『フィネガンズ・ウェイク』）をはじめとする新しい芸術や思想の発表の場として活況を呈しており、若きベケットに多大なる刺激と影響を与えたと思われる。　本研究は、1995年に刊行された『トランジション』復刻版を用い、同誌がベケットの思想形成に果たした役割について考察することを目的とするものである。具体的には、執筆者全体の見取り図を作成し、その中でのベケットの思想的位置を明らかにするという基礎作業を行なった。その結果、その後のベケットに多大なる影響を与えることになる広範なジャンルの芸術家や思想家との出会いの場として同誌が機能していた様子をかなり克明に知ることができた。たとえばベケットは1935年に「偶然」ユングの講演を聴いて衝撃を受けたと言われているが、それより前の1930年に刊行された『トランジション』第19、20合併号にはユングの数少ない文学論の一つ「文学と心理学」の、また第21号には『黄金の花の秘密』の抜粋の英訳が掲載されている。どちらの号にもベケット自身が寄稿していることを考えればベケットがこの時点で既にユングの思想に触れていた可能性が高く、従って35年の出会いの偶然性は疑問に付されるべきであろう。またベケットは後にラジオ・テレビ・映画と様々なジャンルに進出することになるが、多様なメディアや機械に関心を寄せる契機となったのも『トランジション』誌上で活躍していた芸術家たちの作品や批評との出会いであったと考えられる。　今後も引き続き『トランジション』に収録された作品や批評を詳細に検討し、ベケットの作品との影響関係の解明に努める予定である。
