    Named Data Networking (NDN) is a promising architecture for the future Internet and it is mainly designed for efficient content delivery and retrieval. However, producer mobility support is one of the challenging problems of NDN. This paper proposes a scheme which aims to optimize the tunneling-based producer mobility solution inNDN. It does not require NDN routers to change their routing tables (Forwarding Information Base) after a producer moves. Instead, the Interest packet can be sent from a consumer to the moved producer using the tunnel. The piggybacked Data packet which is sent back to the consumer will trigger the consumer to send the following Interest packets through the optimized path to the producer. Moreover, a naming scheme is proposed so that the NDN caching function can be fully utilized. An analysis is carried out to evaluate the performance of the proposal. The results indicate that the proposed scheme reduces the network cost compared to related works and supports route optimization for enhanced producer mobility support in NDN.

    In order to provide high-quality and highly reliable video delivery services for mobile users, especially train passengers, we propose a proactive content caching scheme that uses transportation systems. In our system, we place content servers with cache capability [e.g., content centric networking/named data networking (CCN/NDN)] in every train and station. Video segments encapsulated by MPEG-Dynamic Adaptive Streaming over HTTP (MPEG-DASH) are distributed and pre-cached by the station servers before the trains arrive at the stations. The trains receive content via high-speed wireless transport, such as wireless LANs or millimeter waves, when they stop at the stations. We developed prototype systems based on hypertext transfer protocol and CCN/NDN protocol, evaluate their performance through two field experiments that uses actual trains, and compare with traditional video streaming over cellular networks. Such evaluations indicate that our system can achieve high-quality video delivery without interruption for up to 50 users simultaneously.

  • Two phases outlier detection in different subspaces

    Mining high dimensional outliers is not fully resolved for its dimensional particularity. The existing full space based methods can find distinct outliers and neglect those hidden in some subspaces. Subspace based approaches can detect most outliers that are apparent in low dimensional spaces, while missing the invisible outliers in subspaces. This paper proposes a novel two-phase inspection model. The first phase measures neighbor's density in subspaces to find low dimensional outliers. The second phase evaluates deviation degree of neighbors in connected subspaces. The undiscovered outliers appear a fast dispersion and scatter more than its neighbors. We analysis two-phase results statistically, and merge into one score for each object. The outliers are expressed with top score objects. The evaluation on synthetic and real data sets shows that our proposal outperform state of the art algorithms in high dimensional outlier issue.

    We have proposed a regional information-platform which delivers audiovisual contents automatically that are retrieved with some popular keywords automatically extracted from Web pages and/or SNS related to the region. In this paper, the content retrieval part of the proposed system is described. The image retrieval method based on word-similarity between popular keywords and content metadata using HBase and Japanese WordNet, as well as the experiments using images provided by a newspaper company is explained.

    We have introduced a proactive content delivery system utilizing transportation systems for next generation mobile networks. In this paper, we propose a proactive delivery scheduling, which is called "Smart Scheduler." This scheduler calculates contents quality and quantity and also selects delivery location and timing. To validate and evaluate our method, we experiment in the real environments. Experimental results conduct that our method performs effectively.

    Providing robust content delivery along with efficient wireless resource usage is important for next generation wireless networks. To achieve this, we propose a proactive content caching scheme utilizing transportation systems, especially trains. In our system, we place content servers with CCN capability to every train and station. Segments of video contents are pre-cached by the station servers before trains arrive at stations. Trains receive the contents via high-speed wireless transport while they stop at the stations. We develop a prototype system based on IP and CCN Hybrid protocols. We evaluate its performance by field experiment and compare with traditional CDN scenarios using cellular networks. Evaluations conclude that our system can achieve high-speed and high-reliable video delivery without freezing.

    Finding rare information behind big data is important and meaningful for outlier detection. However, to find such rare information is extremely difficult when the notorious curse of dimensionality exists in high dimensional space. Most of existing methods fail to obtain good result since the Euclidean distance cannot work well in high dimensional space. In this paper, we first perform a grid division of data for each attribute, and compare the density ratio for every point in each dimension. We then project the points of the same area to other dimensions, and then we calculate the disperse extent with defined cluster density value. At last, we sum up all weight values for each point in two-step calculations. After the process, outliers are those points scoring the largest weight. The experimental results show that the proposed algorithm can achieve high precision and recall on the synthetic datasets with the dimension varying from 100 to 10000. © Springer-Verlag 2013.

    In this era of information explosion, automating the annotation process of digital images is a crucial step towards efficient and effective management of this increasingly high volume of content. However, this still is a highly challenging task for the research community. One of the main bottlenecks is the lack of integrity and diversity of features. We propose to solve this problem by utilizing 43 image features that cover the holistic content of the image from global to subject, background and scene. In our approach, salient regions and the background are separated without prior knowledge. Each of them together with the whole image are treated independently for feature extraction. Extensive experiments were designed to show the efficiency and the effectiveness of our approach. We chose two publicly available datasets manually annotated with diverse nature of images for our experiments, namely, the Corel5K and ESP Game datasets. We confirm the superior performance of our approach over the use of a single whole image using sign test with p-value &lt
    0.05. Furthermore, our combined feature set gives satisfactory performance compared to recently proposed approaches especially in terms of generalization even with just a simple combination. We also obtain a better performance with the same feature set versus the grid-based approach. More importantly, when using our features with the state-of-the-art technique, our results show higher performance in a variety of standard metrics. © 2012 Information Processing Society of Japan.

    Automating the annotation process of digital images is a crucial step towards efficient and effective management of this increasingly high volume of content. It is, nevertheless, an extremely challenging task for the research community. One of the main bottle necks is the lack of integrity and diversity of features. We solve this problem by proposing to utilize 43 image features that cover the holistic content of the image from global to subject, background, and scene. In our approach, saliency regions and background are separated without prior knowledge. Each of them together with the whole image is treated independently for feature extraction. Extensive experiments were designed to show the efficiency and effectiveness of our approach. We chose two publicly available datasets manually annotated and with the diverse nature of images for our experiments, namely, the Corel5k and ESP Game datasets. They contain 5,000 images with 260 keywords and 20,770 images with 268 keywords, respectively. Through empirical experiments, it is confirmed that by using our features with the state-of-the-art technique, we achieve superior performance in many metrics, particularly in auto-annotation. © 2011 IEEE.

    We have developed a prototype system of integrating immersive elements from Massive Multiplayer Online Games (MMOG) and systematic principles of Instructional Design (ID) Methodology into Mobile learning (m-learning), in order to counter m-learning's preceding problems of low motivational level towards learning and weak standards to deliver the learning environment. Experiments were conducted on the prototype system with volunteered students to produce notable results for further analysis. This paper reports on the comparison of academic test results obtained between an existing m-learning system and our developed proposed system, conducted in a real-life classroom scenario.     We are interested in high quality photographs. This paper outlines our research proposal for the tasks of classification and quality assessment. We address these challenges by exploring the aesthetics from the combined perspectives of the artists and the photographers. We propose to use the aesthetic primitives of images for visualization as a guideline for high and low-level image feature extraction and to classify this high quality content into six creative exposure themes, which are commonly followed by the professional photographers. Then, we suggest to evaluate the quality of the photograph accordingly to these themes. We solve the problems using statistical modeling and learning approach.

    In the present content distribution environment, many types of digital content exist, and there are many ways in which the content can be consumed and reused. Since content consumers can easily distribute their content to other users, the demand for re-edited content or "secondary content" has increased. In the long term, for any rights management system to be accepted by the market place, the system must effectively manage how different rights are granted under different usage request scenarios, provide a mechanism to enable clear rights description, precise control usage, and handle the derived rights. This paper presents a set of extended rights vocabulary for authoring tools, which manages usage control of copyrighted content. We consider the common features of modern authoring tools, and design a comprehensive rights schema for interactive video-editing systems. With our proposed rights vocabulary and framework, we can derive works that respect the rights of the original content owners, and the corresponding license(s) can be automatically generated based on various content authoring scenarios.     In this paper, an information distribution model based on human's behavior is proposed. We also propose dynamic parameters to make the model more practical for real life social network. Subsequently, the simulations are conducted based on the small-world network and its characteristics, and the parameters in the model are analyzed to increase e.ciently the power of information distribution. Our study and simulation results show that the proposed model can be used to analyze and predict the e.ectiveness of information distribution.   • Classification of video shots based on human affect

    This study addresses the challenge of analyzing affective video content. The affective content of a given video is defined as the intensity and the type of emotion that arise in a viewer while watching that video. In this study, human emotion was monitored by capturing viewers' pupil sizes and gazing points while they were watching the video. On the basis of the measurement values, four features were extracted (namely cumulative pupil response (CPR), frequency component (FC), modified bivariate contour ellipse area (mBVCEA) and Gini coefficient). Using principal component analysis, we have found that two key features, namely the CPR and FC, contribute to the majority of variance in the data. By utilizing the key features, the affective content was identified and could be used in classifying the video shots into their respective scenes. An average classification accuracy of 71.89% was achieved for three basic emotions, with the individual maximum classification accuracy at 89.06%. The development in this study serves as the first step in automating personalized video content analysis on the basis of human emotion.

    Automating the process of semantic annotation of digital personal photographs is a crucial step towards efficient and effective management of this increasingly high volume of content. However, this is still a highly challenging task for the research community. This paper proposes a novel solution. Our solution integrates all contextual information available to and from the users, such as their daily emails, schedules, chat archives, web browsing histories, documents, online news, Wikipedia data, and so forth. We then analyze this information and extract important semantic terms, using them as semantic keyword suggestions for their photos. Those keywords are in the form of named entities, such as names of people, organizations, locations, and date/time as well as high frequency terms. Experiments conducted with 10 subjects and a total of 313 photos proved that our proposed approach can significantly help users with the annotation process. We achieved a 33 gain in annotation time as compared to manual annotation. We also obtained very positive results in the accuracy rate of our suggested keywords.

    This paper presents a video editing system based on the proposed rights inheritance framework for generating a secondary content. We propose Rights Inheritance Content Editor (RICE) module that provides the editing control with Digital Rights Management (DRM) according to the granted rights during the authoring process, and manages inherited rights generation for derived contents. With our proposed rights inheritance framework and RICE, a secondary content can be generated respecting the rights of original contents.

    The recent innovation of telecommunication and networking technologies has been making the distribution, creation and use of digital contents easy and flexible for everyone. Therefore, the Digital Rights Management is becoming an important issue, and effective rights management should be achieved by utilizing DRM technologies appropriately. However, there is no criteria ever used for selecting and evaluating DRM technologies and DRM systems. In this paper, DRM processing in digital content distribution are analyzed based on the rights holder's requirements, and the selection methodology of DRM technologies is proposed.

    Recently broadband Internet such as ADSL and FTTH is getting popular, Many PC and home appliance becomes always connected to Internet not only in office environment but also in home environment. Remote access attracts attention as a technique for supporting such connected equipment like PC. However, when remote PC is connected to the Internet via a router which has function of Network Address Translator, remote access to such PC from the outside is difficult. We have developed the method that PC can be assisted by the remote assistant without security issues even if that PC is connected via a router. It was jointly developed and evaluated by several Universities and local companies who want to provide this kind of services such as Help Desk. In this paper, we propose remote access system, which is using "Relay Server" to relay client and assistant connection and encrypting data with SSL. In University, after several prototype implementation and experiments, "Remote Access Platform" was developed, and several local companies built their services based on this "Platform". Collaboration between academia and industry enables the practical implementation of remote access system using relay server.

  • Khmer POS tagger: A transformation-based approach with hybrid unknown word handling

    This paper presents an initiative research on Khmer part-of-speech tagger. We propose some modifications on applying rule algorithm of the transformation-based approach to adapt to Khmer language which is morphologically and syntactically different from the English language. Furthermore, to overcome the limited coverage of the rule-based approach in handling unknown words, we propose a hybrid approach to combine the rule-based and trigram models. Although training on a very small corpus, both proposed approaches achieve higher accuracy than the conventional methods. The tagger achieves 95.27% on training data and 91.96% on test data which includes 9% of unknown words.

    This paper presents an Ontology-based health care information extraction system - VnHIES. In the system, we develop and use two effective algorithms called "Semantic Elements Extracting Algorithm" and "New Semantic Elements Learning Algorithm" for health care semantic words extraction and ontology enhancement. The former algorithm will extract Concepts (Cs), Descriptions of concepts (Ds), Pairs of Concept and Description(C-D) and Names of diseases (Ns) in health care information domain from web pages. Those extracted semantic elements are used by latter algorithm that will render suggestions in which might contain new semantic elements for later use by domain users to enrich ontology. After extracting semantic elements, a "Document Weighting Algorithm" is applied to get summary information of document with respect to all extracted semantic words and then to be stored in knowledge base which contains ontology and database to be used later in other applications. Our experiment results show that the approach is very optimistic with high accuracy in semantic extracting and efficiency in ontology upgrade. VnHIES can be used in many health care information management systems such as medical document classification, health care information retrieval system. VnHIES is implemented in Vietnamese language. © 2007 IEEE.

  • Hybrid approach for Khmer unknown word POS guessing

    New words are being created everyday and the lexicon is not large enough to cover all the words, unknown words become a serious problem in part-of-speech tagging. This paper presents a hybrid approach to handle the unknown word problem in Khmer part-of-speech tagging. The hybrid approach combined of rule-based model and trigram model makes use of both internal structure of the word and surrounding contextual information to predict the part-of-speech of unknown words. The proposed approach achieves 88.9% and 78.2% of accuracy on training and test data respectively.

    Ontology-based information extraction is considered as an effective method to improve the performance of information extraction (IE) systems. In order to build a better IE system using ontology-based technique, the two challenges should be most taken into account are semantic elements extraction, and ontology enhancement. Focusing on the two key points above, we propose an ontology-based information extraction system and its application information retrieval system in the health care domain. In ontology-based information extraction system, we propose a non part-of-speech based method for the semantic elements extraction and the ontology enhancement to overcome the above challenges. Experiments and Results show that all functions work well in the whole system. Many kinds of semantic elements can be extracted by the proposed extraction functions regardless parts-of-speech of words. High ratio of new semantic elements is detected for the ontology and database enrichment that yield very good results in information retrieval. The system is implemented in Vietnamese.

    The advancements of technology have been making digital cameras more and more affordable for everyone. Consequently, digital photographs have grown exponentially this last decade and have been making it beyond the abilities of people to easily manage their own photo collections. Annotation is one of the solutions to solve this burden. Therefore, we propose a semi-automatic annotation engine with contextual metadata generation. Photos with geo-referential information such as Global Positioning System (GPS) are the current tendency. Using the exact location information given by GPS, together with time-stamps, our novel engine semi-automatically generates contextual metadata for each photo from different sources of information namely the public news and users' personal information. We have designed, implemented and tested our system.

  • Exploiting users' personal and public information for personal photo annotation

    Annotation is the core item to enable efficient access to media. Thus, automatic annotation is a highly challenging problem. We present a novel solution to personal digital photograph annotation problem which annotates photo based on users' personal, and public information. We use timestamps of photo together with exact location name as pivots to search for more contextual metadata from users' emails, schedules, web browsing histories and public information repositories such as online encyclopedia and news websites. A notable contribution of our approach is that it can effectively leverage the background information of users' daily activities and their ambient environment to semi-automatically annotate their photographs. Experimental results conducted with 10 subjects and a total of 313 photos show that we can reduce 33% of annotation time over manual annotation and we also obtain very encouraging accuracy results.

    Rapidly emerging IP-based broadband technologies allow multimedia communications between viewers and TV broadcasting stations as well as among viewers. Talk-back and Talk-together TV systems provide new forms of interactive broadcasting services and enhance the current experiences of TV viewing. We first defined Talk-back and Talk-together TV systems and then analyzed their possible service scenarios for extracting required system functionalities. Furthermore, we carried out a Talk-together TV system experimental study that examined user reactions to the Talk-together TV sessions on quiz and soccer programs by connecting the subject viewers with different communication media
    none, text-only, audio, audiovisual, physically together. The results indicate that there are future possibilities of user acceptance for the new TV services that utilize bidirectional multimedia links among viewers.

    In this paper, we propose a flexible metadata exchange model based on metadata fragmentation. In this model, a complete set of metadata is divided into several fragments, and each fragment can be distributed and circulated. over networks individually. The reconstruction of the original metadata is easy using some link information included in them. This model provides much more flexible metadata circulation, and allows the word-of-mouth style metadata flow among users.     Recently, media convergence and interoperability over multiple networks are becoming a determining factor for the success of new digital broadcasting and telecommunication services. In this paper, we present an original architecture framework providing a mean for seamless transport of RTP based streaming over both Internet and ISDB (ARIB) networks. This goal is achieved by using the independence of the RTP protocol from the transport layer, and by remarking that MPEG-2 Systems based ISDB provides a high-quality packet delivery scheme with the DSM-CC protocol. We propose to carry RTP/RTCP packets in DSM-CC messages, whereas an RTSP messages subset is being mapped onto ARIB DSM-CC event messages. The complete architecture is evaluated using a PC based simulator including a BML browser and a transport stream demultiplexer card.

    In this paper, a new system architecture called decoder-downloadable system is described. The purpose of this system is to provide a uniform platform for the multimedia world based on image compressions using characteristics of the contents. This system enables dynamic decoder downloading by negotiation between servers and clients for seamless and minimum delay playback. This negotiation scheme is implemented by Java and CORBA (Common Object Request Broker). Thus, servers and clients in this system are independent from OSes and hardware specifications. This system is suitable for TV broadcasting as well as Internet streaming.
    We improve a decoder architecture in order to make the system more flexible. A decoder has some functions such as bitstream parsing, image compression algorithms (DCT, Wavelet, Motion estimation and so on). However, conventional decoders are monolithic software. Thus, it is impossible to share parts of decoders. The proposed method enables a module-based decoder and sharing some modules among some decoders. Consequently, the flexible decoder can make downloading time shorter by avoidance to download redundant parts of decoders. It also achieves scalabillity enabling this system to be used in some multimedia applications, such as a multimedia content search system, as well as a multimedia player.

    Interactive Digital Television (DTV) broadcasting is catching popularity while broadband Internet and wireless communication networks are being made available at lower prices. The former is characterised by a guaranteed quality of delivery but a limited and expensive overall bandwidth, whereas the latter offers, in principle, a much higher backbone bandwidth, but suffers from a bad Quality of Service (QoS). 3G mobile networks lie in between as far as QoS or speed is concerned. In order to be successful, new interactive multimedia programmes will have to target all delivery channels. There is then a need for transmitting these programmes alternatively on multiple media to ensure ubiquity and optimise the data delivery based on content requirement. This paper presents a framework for an interactive DTV system implemented on top of current DTV and Internet technologies, which allows an optimal use of the combined broadcast + Internet path bandwidth. We design a "smart" media server that relies on the content type (data or streaming), the service class and available bandwidth to determine the type of content to be sent over the broadcast or the Internet path. We address also the middleware architecture at the client side as well as the multimedia encoding language issue.

    In this paper, we focus on the video transcoder as a bit rate reducer in a network node and propose a rate control scheme for a low-delay MPEG-2(1) video transcoder. First, we summarize the requirements of a rate control algorithm for low-delay transcoding. Next, based on these requirements, we describe the proposed rate control scheme in detail. Then, we analyze the input and output buffer delay and calculate the total delay time of the proposed transcoder. Finally, we evaluate the proposed scheme from the simulation results of experiments on picture quality, transcoding delay time and GOP (Group Of Pictures) structure information (N/M value) of the input bit stream. Consequently, we showed that the proposed scheme can provide the same picture quality as a traditional scheme and is independent of the GOP structure.

    A video coding scheme that enables hierarchical video signal processing in MPEG II is proposed in this paper. Dividing each input picture into hierarchical layers, a proposed prediction is applied into each layer. The proposed coding scheme is to be characterized on the following points: (1) Non-interlaced pictures for each layer picture, even for the highest resolution layer. (2) Hierarchical motion estimation to provide precise motion vectors in less process time, to each layer of pictures. (3) Hierarchical prediction and layer pictures to provide various size of video signal for display, and to be compatible with MPEG I. (4) Up-sampling and down-sampling processes without phase distortion between neighbor layers. Other functions are almost the same as MPEG I. As the experimental result, the quality of decoded pictures highly depends on the quality of non-interlaced pictures that are provided from the pre-process. © 1993.

    This paper aims at a system which receives the image information of a commercially available map, separates the information according to their categories, and stores the information so that re‐editing is possible. Algorithms are proposed by which the map information given as the input image is separated with the least intervention of human operation, and only the incomplete points are indicated by the human observation. An evaluation of the algorithms is presented. In the past, various algorithms have been proposed for the image separation. In this work, an experimental system was constructed to demonstrate the feasibility of constructing the actual system. By the proposed algorithm, most of the characters, roads, coastlines, railways and boundary lines were separated from the black‐and‐white map. The information compression for storage and indexing for retrieval are also performed. The data storage method is discussed. Finally, the map output of the system is described, and several examples of output maps are presented. Copyright © 1988 Wiley Periodicals, Inc., A Wiley Company

    Digital image consumption has grown so rapidly, and image retrieval is expected to be more improved. To bridge the semantic gap which is an underlying problem of image retrieval, relevance feedback can be one of the solutions. Relevance feedback with eye-movements allows users to give their feedback just by watching the images and, moreover may make it possible to select the images even though they don't recognize what they want. Feedback with eye-movements demands the reasonable classification of users' desired images with eye-movements. We have already reported the result of a SVM trained with the features extracted from eye-movements and pupil size toward each image. In this report, it is shown that we improve the classification performance with sparse coding.

    Named Data Networking (NDN) is a clean slate future Internet architecture optimized for today's demand, which is to retrieve contents efficiently. The Internet is mainly used to retrieve contents in terms of traffics. In NDN, communications can be done based on the names of contents instead of IP addresses. The name-based routing and in-network caching functions of NDN optimize communications. Users can retrieve content only by sending a request packet, which includes the requested content name. However, when a user retrieves many contents or many users request large content at the same time, the user needs to send many number of request packets. It may cause network congestions. In this paper, we propose a mechanism that enables users to request contents only by sending one aggregated request packet and that the contents can be aggregated in networks, which can reduce the network loads.

For processing large traffic, virtualized network based on SDN (Software defined Network) has been provided for purpose of cloud networking as CDN (Contents Delivery Network). On the other hand, the ICN (Information Centric Network) has been proposing as IP independent network which isn't based on IP address. And it has been discussing about advantages compared to the IP network. This paper shows the experimental results of Proactive Content Caching and Delivery Scheme utilizing Transportation Systems.     In this paper, we propose to extract personalized video features based on the viewer's interest. The viewer's interest toward the video content is modeled in real time by monitoring their pupil size, gazing point and heart rate. The experimental results show that the video summary generated using weighted video features achieves higher precision and recall ratios for video with high narration nature if compared to video summary generated by video features without personalized weight prediction.

    コンテンツの流通形態や利用形態の広がりにより、Digital Rights Management の必要性が高まる中、さまざまなコンテンツ流通ビジネスにおいて、DRM System やDRM 技術が導入されている。これらの適切な活用は、効果的な権利の運用や管理に繋がると考えられるが、今日、これらの明確な選択基準や評価基準は存在しない。本稿では、このDRM 技術とDRM モデルの選択手法、DRMSystem の評価手法に関して、コンテンツ流通における各種DRM 処理の分析とコンテンツ流通ビジネスのモデル化を図ることにより検討する。Digital Contents have came to be used in various places,and Digital Rights Management is becoming an important technology.So,many contents distribution business has implemented DRM System and DRM technology. Effective rights management can be attained by utilizing such DRM technology appropriately.However,selection or evaluation criteria of such technology do not exist today.Therefore,this paper analyzes each DRM processing in digital contents distribution and considers modeling of contents distribution business.And,it proposes the selection technique of DRM technologies,and the evaluation technique of DRM system.

    In this paper, we propose a quantization control method for MPEG-2 video transcoder. At first, we investigate the requantization characteristics in MPEG-2, and show the reduced bits in requantization are limited to some particular values. Next, we propose the quantization control scheme based on the requantization characteristics mentioned above. In simulation experiments, we apply the proposed control scheme to some convetional rate control schemes. At, we show the effivtiveness of the proposed control scheme.

    In this paper, we propose a video rate control scheme for MPEG-2 multi-program transport stream (TS) transcoder. At first, we explain its algorithm that considers the composition, rate distortion characteristics, and start-end points of pictures in current transport stream to be transcoded. Next, we show the transcoder with the proposed video control scheme, and explain the process flow. Finally, from simulation experiments, we compare the proposed rate control scheme to the conventional rate control scheme in terms of changes of a ratio between input bits and output bits, coding bits and picture quality.

    This report preposes a new MC(motion compensation)scheme in layered coding system to reduce blurring called ″drift″.The syste m compresses digital video data with NxN point DCT(discrete cosine transform)and MC.Furthermore it reconstructs down scaled pictures for the use of layered coding. The problem we are concerning with is the ″drift″ which is obse rved in reconstructed,down scaled and predicted pictures.First of all,the problem is investigated from multirate digital signal processing point of view.After that,a new MC in decoder is preposed which uses half band filteips.Finally,effectiveness of the method is confirmed by applying it to video data coding.

    The tree year research can be summarized as following five points.
    1.We propose a method to transfer and/or combine various rights information by the reliable info-transmission guaranteeing the correctness of the log as recorded at terminal.
    2.We propose a method of flexible rights information distribution of rights holders, and also propose and evaluate a method of re-composition and re-editing rights information in a distributed processing way.
    3.We propose a scalable method for rights information processing that enables to describe content-viewing rights and corresponding control without any contradictions. By the method, allowed.action(s) against any segment of content and viewing rights relationship among contents can be described. Moreover, "targeting" satisfying users' preferences and new functionality called "content substitution" are enabled. We also evaluate the prototype system.
    4.We clarify functions of rights information processing entities and relationship among them. Three entities (license control function, right inheritance control function, and license/right management log function) are essential and enable not only the primary content distribution but also the secondary.
    5.We name the future multimedia environment "Content Circulation" where content consumers may act as content creators, circulatedly or repeatedly, and also clarify the issues of secondary content distribution and related rights processing. At generating derived rights information, the proposed language automatically processes and generates it while respecting the original rights and guaranteeing the consistency of rights of the originals and the newly generated ones.
    The open issue still remaining is to build up a prototype system in order to validate and evaluate the proposed method of 5.

    1 Objective of the research
    In collaboraticn with "Research and development of district-oriented high level information and communication service applications" Project which is underway in Honjyo area of Saitama prefecture, this research studies practical use of wireless ATM technology through application to the access network in the high level medical information network support system infrastructure in the area.
    2 Summary of the research result so far and the prospect for further study
    The collaborative project mentioned above has been implementing the regional wireless LAN and the high level medical information network support system in Honjyo city and adjacent townships of Saitama prefecture. In FY1999 we conducted the basic research activities as study and design of the wireless ATM network using optical wireless communication system, basic experiment, and investigation of the system environment together with the research committee of the collaborative project. In FY2000 we implemented the optical wireless ATM network, designed the architecture to interconnect with the network of the collaborative project followed by the functional confirmation through high definition video delivery and MPEG4 audio-visual communication, and verification test through multi-points distance learning. In FY2001 we continued further verification of the integrated network including the optical wireless ATM network by contents delivery through the digital CATV network in neighboring Kamiizumi village as well as MPEG-4 audio-visual contents delivery, which confirmed the practical use of wireless ATM technology. Also we studied the network support system and the service system for the high level medical information as well as the current situation of the medical organizations in Honjyo area in order to look into the possibility of the application of the research system throughout the area. We are going to continue to work together with the collaborative project in social welfare and medical fields to reflect well the results of this research work.

    1. Modification of a feature extraction method to improve its performance : Firstly, in the retrieval method by using "GAMON", we proposed a hierarchical retrieval method, targeted to retrieve the requested video quickly and accurately from the archived video contents in large storage. In the proposed method, one-dimensional DCT operation to a temporal sequence of average color value per frame is executed with quantization of coefficients and moving picture's feature is finally extracted as its lower frequency components. Using this feature as "GAMON", quick and accurate image retrieval becomes possible. As one of experimental results, image retrieval of 34 sequences(TV ads film : each 15 seconds) out of 24-hours-TV content archive, are executed within 3 minutes. Additionally, we evaluated our modified system's performance through previous simulation experiments of image retrieval. As a result, modified system achieved remarkable performance, namely 13 times faster compared to our previous system and 20,000 times faster compared to sequence's time length.
    2. Application study on conventional TV broadcasted content retrieval system : We assumed a video content distribution system via network with large video content archive. Conventional TV(analog) contents' quality is easily influenced by their receiving environment and even from the same source, different features can be extracted from contents with ghost, for example. Therefore we have intentionally prepared an archive with some contents including ghosts, designed an image retrieval system by using "GAMON" for MPEG-2 images and implemented it. Through simulation experiments, very high accurate image retrieval are done with results of 0 surplus detection and 0 failure detection.

    Vehicle driver's ability to maintain optimal performance and attention is essential to ensure the safety of the traffic. Electroencephalography (EEG) signals have been proven to be effective in evaluating human's cognitive state under specific tasks. In this paper, we propose the use of deep learning on EEG signals to detect the driver's cognitive workload under high and low workload tasks. Data used in this research are collected throughout multiple driving sessions conducted on a high fidelity driving simulator. Preliminary experimental results conducted on only 4 channels of EEG show that the proposed system is capable of accurately detecting the cognitive workload of the driver with an enormous potential for improvement.

  • SvgAI - Training artificial intelligent agent to use SVG editor

    Deep reinforcement learning has been successfully used to train artificial intelligent (AI) agents to outperform humans in many tasks as well as to enhance the capability in robotic automation. In this paper, we propose a framework to train an AI agent to use scalable vector graphic (SVG) editor to draw SVG images. Hence, the objective of this AI agent is to draw SVG images that are similar as much as possible to their target raster images. We find that it is crucial to distinguish the action space into two sets and apply a different exploration policy on each set during the training process. Evaluations show that our proposed dual-exploration policy greatly stabilizes the training process and increases the accuracy of the AI agent. SVG images produced by the proposed AI agent also have superior quality compared to popular raster-to-SVG conversion software.

    Named Data Networking (NDN) is a promising architecture for the future Internet and it is mainly designed for efficient content delivery and retrieval. However, producer mobility support is one of the challenging problems of NDN. This paper proposes a scheme which aims to optimize the tunneling-based producer mobility solution inNDN. It does not require NDN routers to change their routing tables (Forwarding Information Base) after a producer moves. Instead, the Interest packet can be sent from a consumer to the moved producer using the tunnel. The piggybacked Data packet which is sent back to the consumer will trigger the consumer to send the following Interest packets through the optimized path to the producer. Moreover, a naming scheme is proposed so that the NDN caching function can be fully utilized. An analysis is carried out to evaluate the performance of the proposal. The results indicate that the proposed scheme reduces the network cost compared to related works and supports route optimization for enhanced producer mobility support in NDN.

    In order to provide high-quality and highly reliable video delivery services for mobile users, especially train passengers, we propose a proactive content caching scheme that uses transportation systems. In our system, we place content servers with cache capability [e.g., content centric networking/named data networking (CCN/NDN)] in every train and station. Video segments encapsulated by MPEG-Dynamic Adaptive Streaming over HTTP (MPEG-DASH) are distributed and pre-cached by the station servers before the trains arrive at the stations. The trains receive content via high-speed wireless transport, such as wireless LANs or millimeter waves, when they stop at the stations. We developed prototype systems based on hypertext transfer protocol and CCN/NDN protocol, evaluate their performance through two field experiments that uses actual trains, and compare with traditional video streaming over cellular networks. Such evaluations indicate that our system can achieve high-quality video delivery without interruption for up to 50 users simultaneously.

    © 2016 IEEE. Urban surveillance systems are being applied in a rapid pace with mature but inefficient solutions. The inefficiency is revealed with two aspects, too concentrated bandwidth and processing requirement. To solve this problem, we proposed a content oriented surveillance system based on Information-Centric Network. However, we can't simply replace TCP/IP streaming structure with named contents streaming structure because it can't improve the surveillance system's efficiency enough. In this paper, we took the ICN network's profits even further with the named contents. Instead of streaming live video to the central data center and processing multiple data stream in the same time, we have designed the nodes to process the captured raw data and produce objective contents for the central data center. With the extremely size difference in raw data and actual valued contents from it, we could apply the method in investigating area people traffic conditions and even in disaster and anti-terrorism scenarios. There was a field experiment performed to evaluate tourists' densities and dressing habits during winter season of March. The experiment expressed the benefits of our system and compared our method with traditional surveillance systems in saving network bandwidth and functionalities.

    Digital image consumption has grown so rapidly, and image retrieval is expected to be more improved. To bridge the semantic gap which is an underlying problem of image retrieval, relevance feedback can be one of the solutions. Relevance feedback with eye-movements allows users to give their feedback just by watching the images and, moreover may make it possible to select the images even though they don't recognize what they want. Feedback with eye-movements demands the reasonable classification of users' desired images with eye-movements. We have already reported the result of a SVM trained with the features extracted from eye-movements and pupil size toward each image. In this report, it is shown that we improve the classification performance with sparse coding.

    © 2015 IEEE. Providing robust content delivery service, such as Video on Demand, with efficient wireless resource usage is important for mobile users. To achieve this, we have proposed a proactive content caching scheme utilizing transportation systems (e.g., train.) Because our previous prototype is immature and has a scalability issue, in this paper, we introduce efficient transmission mechanism of Interest messages in order to improve throughput efficiency in mobile NDN. We develop two prototypes based on HTTP and NDN and then evaluate prototype performance by performing larger-scale field experiments on actual commercial railroad line. Evaluations conclude that our system can achieve high efficient content transfer and fully utilize wireless network bandwidth. Therefore, our system can provide high-quality video streaming for up to 50 users simultaneously.

  • Two phases outlier detection in different subspaces

    Mining high dimensional outliers is not fully resolved for its dimensional particularity. The existing full space based methods can find distinct outliers and neglect those hidden in some subspaces. Subspace based approaches can detect most outliers that are apparent in low dimensional spaces, while missing the invisible outliers in subspaces. This paper proposes a novel two-phase inspection model. The first phase measures neighbor's density in subspaces to find low dimensional outliers. The second phase evaluates deviation degree of neighbors in connected subspaces. The undiscovered outliers appear a fast dispersion and scatter more than its neighbors. We analysis two-phase results statistically, and merge into one score for each object. The outliers are expressed with top score objects. The evaluation on synthetic and real data sets shows that our proposal outperform state of the art algorithms in high dimensional outlier issue.

    Named Data Networking (NDN) is a clean slate future Internet architecture optimized for today's demand, which is to retrieve contents efficiently. The Internet is mainly used to retrieve contents in terms of traffics. In NDN, communications can be done based on the names of contents instead of IP addresses. The name-based routing and in-network caching functions of NDN optimize communications. Users can retrieve content only by sending a request packet, which includes the requested content name. However, when a user retrieves many contents or many users request large content at the same time, the user needs to send many number of request packets. It may cause network congestions. In this paper, we propose a mechanism that enables users to request contents only by sending one aggregated request packet and that the contents can be aggregated in networks, which can reduce the network loads.

    Providing robust content delivery along with efficient wireless resource usage is important for next generation wireless networks. To achieve this, we propose a proactive content caching scheme utilizing transportation systems, especially trains. In our system, we place content servers with CCN capability to every train and station. Segments of video contents are pre-cached by the station servers before trains arrive at stations. Trains receive the contents via high-speed wireless transport while they stop at the stations. We develop a prototype system based on IP and CCN Hybrid protocols. We evaluate its performance by field experiment and compare with traditional CDN scenarios using cellular networks. Evaluations conclude that our system can achieve high-speed and high-reliable video delivery without freezing.

    Finding rare information behind big data is important and meaningful for outlier detection. However, to find such rare information is extremely difficult when the notorious curse of dimensionality exists in high dimensional space. Most of existing methods fail to obtain good result since the Euclidean distance cannot work well in high dimensional space. In this paper, we first perform a grid division of data for each attribute, and compare the density ratio for every point in each dimension. We then project the points of the same area to other dimensions, and then we calculate the disperse extent with defined cluster density value. At last, we sum up all weight values for each point in two-step calculations. After the process, outliers are those points scoring the largest weight. The experimental results show that the proposed algorithm can achieve high precision and recall on the synthetic datasets with the dimension varying from 100 to 10000. © Springer-Verlag 2013.

    In this paper, we propose to extract personalized video features based on the viewer's interest. The viewer's interest toward the video content is modeled in real time by monitoring their pupil size, gazing point and heart rate. The experimental results show that the video summary generated using weighted video features achieves higher precision and recall ratios for video with high narration nature if compared to video summary generated by video features without personalized weight prediction.

    With the exponential increase of digital video volume, it is crucial to have a system to automatically generate video abstract that would enable viewers to skim the video archives efficiently. In this paper, we propose to generate video abstract based on viewers' perception. The viewers' perception is obtained by modeling their pupil sizes and gazing points while watching the video. An Attention Fusion Function is applied to the models to obtain the final attention curve, and video abstracts are created. Based on subjective evaluation, the generated video skims are rated 67.38 efficiently representing the original video, and an average score of 56.10 for the automatically generated key-frames.

    国立歴史民俗博物館では現在、共同研究 『ニュース映画の研究資源化ならびに活用方法の確立に関する研究』 において、川崎市市民ミュージアムの協力の下、同ミュージアムが所蔵する 「日本ニュース映画」 ( 1946 年~1951 年:第 1 号~第 312 号) のナレーションのテキスト化を行い、ニュース映画の歴史資料化の方法を模索している。筆者らは、その一環として全文のテキストデータについて、歴史研究に資するデータベースを構築するためのシステム開発を行っている。今回は構築したシステムのアーキテクチャついて、他の先駆的なアーカイブシステムとの比較を試みた。また、完成したプロトタイプシステムを実際に歴史学者に利用してもらい、彼らから寄せられた要求事項をもとに評価と今後の設計方針について検討を行う。We have been conducting a joint research project about "Using News Movies for Historical Study" with National Museum of Japanese History (NMJH) in cooperation with Kawasaki City Museum. In this research, NMJH is presently transcribing the narration from "Nippon News" (from 1946 to 1951 and numbered 1 through 312) and particularly exploring ways to transform the films into a database. To evaluate structure of our proposed system, we have examined it in comparison with other prominent archive systems. Additionally, we have historians using the completed prototype system in order to take into consideration their actual needs for future improvements.

    Video Summarization technique that could automatically generate abstract based on human perception is becoming important in order to facilitate the human perception based skimming of the rapid-growing digital video archives. In this paper, an attention model is proposed from the viewers' pupil and gaze. A fusion function that satisfies the 'attention property' of human is applied to produce the final attention model, which forms the basis for the generation of key-frames and video skims.

    Behind the fact that we understand not only the concept of objects appearing in a movie, but also the semantics that film makers intent to present, there is a certain relation between "the Film Grammar" and Audience's media literacy. In this paper, we propose a video summarization method based on the film grammar and subjective rating, by mapping visual characteristic parameters extracted from compressed video to subjective rating. Additionally, in our prototype system, a proper play-rate is automatically generated, without any knowledge of the content.

    The advancement of technology have been making digital cameras more and more affordable for everyone. Digital photographs have grown exponentially this last decade and have been making it beyond the ability of people to manage their own photo collections. We propose a personal photo library system with built-in semi-automatic annotation engine. Photos with geo-referential (GPS) information are the current tendency. Using the exact location information given by GPS together with timestamp ,our novel engine semi-automatically generate contextual meta-data for each photo from different sources of information namely the public news and user's personal information. We have designed, implemented and tested our system and the result show that our system significantly helps users to annotate, search, browse their digital photo album.

In order to solve such a problem, we have proposed a novel information distribution system focused on word-of-mouth communication. Word-of-mouth information can be considered as evaluated information by other users. However, the support environment with high accessibility for Open Source users (General user who is not a hacker) is very poor. It is dfficult to use developed Open Source in this situation, Here, we propose a new support environment for Open Source users by offering of potal web site which has high accessibility. The portal web site constructs it with three phases and user's evaluation. We set up physical environment and provide basic services such as User's registration, BBS (Bulletin Board System), File-Download-System, Mailing list and etc. at phase1. And then, we provide some original services such as Collection and distribution system of Open Source's information. Compatibility check function with other sources, Automatic delivery system of updated informations, Making and offering of operation manuals, The place of cooperation of developer and user and etc. at phase2 and phase3. We collect user's opinions and reflect it on site in each phase. As a result, we derive an ultimate support environment that user is requesting through this web site. We also report on the result in phase1 and the implementation plan of phase2.

    本論文では,DCT係数領域内再量子化処理によるMPEG-2ビデオトランスコーダに着目し,再量子化処理時のレートひずみ特性に基づく再量子化パラメータ禁止領域制御方式を提案する.まず最初に,DCT係数領域内でのMPEG-2トランスコーダ再量子化処理における再量子化結合処理方式を導出し,再量子化処理におけるレートひずみ特性を明らかにする.そして,再量子化特性に基づき,再量子化パラメータの算出に際して禁止領域を設け適応的に選択することで,再量子化誤差の発生を抑制することが可能なMPEG-2トランスコーダ再量子化制御方式を提案する.最後に,従来方式であるTM符号量制御適用方式,低遅延符号量制御方式,ドリフト誤差伝搬を考慮した符号量制御方式に適用することで,前段までの符号量制御方式に依存することなく画質向上を実現可能であることを示し,本提案方式の有効性を明らかにする.

    As the current TV set architecture tightly coupled with its hardware components, it is only able to decode NTSC based services, and it is impossible to adapt to new coming broadcasting services using new coded representations in future, such as MPEG2,3D-TV, etc. Therefore, we propose a concept, "next-generation TV system", where a TV set is essentially a kind of computer, each processing within it is performed by software and the decoder program is downloaded through transmission channels. In this paper, an efficient transmission scheme enabling such a system is described.

    This report preposes a new MC(motion compensation)scheme in layered coding system to reduce blurring called ″drift″.The syste m compresses digital video data with NxN point DCT(discrete cosine transform)and MC.Furthermore it reconstructs down scaled pictures for the use of layered coding. The problem we are concerning with is the ″drift″ which is obse rved in reconstructed,down scaled and predicted pictures.First of all,the problem is investigated from multirate digital signal processing point of view.After that,a new MC in decoder is preposed which uses half band filteips.Finally,effectiveness of the method is confirmed by applying it to video data coding.

    本論文では,MPEG 2符号化方式に対する機能要求条件を示し,それに対する一つの実現手段として階層的動画像符号化方式を提案する.本方式では,MPEG 1符号化方式において用いられている時間方向の予測のほかに,空間方向の予測も導入して予測効率を高めている.また次の特徴がある.(1)出力デバイスに依存しないノンインタレースフォーマット画像を入力とする,(2)ユーザの解像度選択を可能にする階層構造をもつ,(3)少ない演算量と広い補償範囲をカバーし,各階層の動きべクトルを検出する階層的動き検出法と動きべクトルの符号化方式,(4)位相ひずみを生じない画像縮退・拡大法の導入.また,符号化データの記述法はMPEG 1の拡張として実現しており互換性を保っている.更に,シミュレーション実験により,符号化効率の著しい低下なしに要求機能を実現する符号化方式であることを確認した.

  • 映像符号化方式における動き補償ディープツールの実現手法に関する研究

    従来の映像符号化方式を超える情報圧縮性能の達成を目指し、映像圧縮性能に大きく寄与する動き補償をDNN(Deep Neural Network)で置き換える手法について検討した。具体的な手法として脳の予測符号化理論を証明するために提案されたPredNetに着目し、PredNetの改良方式として、(1)PredNetに複数の畳込みカーネルを導入する方式、(2)GANとPredNetを組み合わせた方式、(3)PredNet中で擬似的な未来フレーム特徴量を考慮した方式を新たに考案した。実験の結果、どの提案方式もPredNetを上回る予測性能が得らることを確認した。

  • 情報通信サービスにおけるユーザの期待や文脈を考慮する生体情報利用QoE評価手法

    様々な通信品質のコンテンツを視聴する際の評価者の生体情報等を取得し、より柔軟で個別化可能なQoE評価手法の検討を行った。具体的には、再生中に一時停止する遅延を含んだ動画像視聴時の生体信号等から主観評価値をランダムフォレストで予測したところ、興味度を説明変数に含んだ場合に高い予測精度が得られ、ユーザの期待や文脈がQoEに影響することが示唆された。また、近年視聴スタイルとして増加傾向にあるスマートフォンを見ながら動画像視聴する、いわゆる「ながら視聴時」の生体情報分析を行ったところ、高品質動画のながら視聴時に有意な瞳孔径散大を確認した。同様に、ユーザの動画像品質に対する評価がQoEに影響していることが示唆された。

    MOS法(Mean Opinion Score)によるユーザ体感品質(QoE, Quality of Experience)評価の問題点を解決するため、ヒトの生体情報を利用したQoE評価手法の確立を目標とし、通信サービス品質と生体情報の関係性の分析を行った。本研究では、特に、視線情報(瞳孔径変動及び注視点)に着目し、映像品質に対する瞳孔径変動と注視点の分析と、ディープラーニングによる対光反射補正方式の検討を行った。検討の結果、画面X軸方向の注視点位置の標準偏差がビットレートに伴い低下する統計的に有意な結果を得ると共に、7階層ディープラーニングによって対光反射補正精度の向上が得られた。

    NGN(Next Generation Network)の実用化に伴い、NGN上の主要アプリケーションとして、従来のテレビの進化形態であるIPTVが注目されている。IPTVはIPネットワーク上でのオープンなサービスであるため、ネットワークに繋がる各視聴者は、IPTV基盤を用いた自由な情報発信や情報交換が技術的には可能である。このことから、IPTVは、従来のマスメディアとしての放送サービス、及び、パーソナライズドメディアとしてのVoD(Video On Demand)サービスを享受できるメディアとしてだけではなく、近い将来に、映像コミュニケーションメディアとして発展することが予想される。具体的には、同じ興味を持っている視聴者間で映像コンテンツを共有して視聴し、そのことによって視聴者間で感想や感情の共有が可能となる。加えて、視聴者からの映像配信も可能であるため、視聴者自身がコンテンツプロバイダあるいはサービスプロバイダとなることも可能となる。このことによって、IPTV視聴者は、世界中の放送局等のビジネスサービスプロバイダだけからではなく、一般視聴者と高品質な情報交換が可能になり、豊かな人間間のコミュニケーションを実現できる可能性がある。このようなサービスをIPTV上に実現するためには、SNS(Social Networking Service)に見られるような情報共有機能、視聴者が持っているコンテンツを配信・共有する著作権を考慮したコンテンツ配信機能及びコンテンツ管理機能、視聴者の嗜好の発見、嗜好の分析、嗜好情報の更新機能が必要であり、それに基づいた映像コンテンツや番組編成のパーソナライズ化が必須となる。以上から、本研究では、映像コミュニケーション基盤の観点からIPTVに着目し、豊かな映像コミュニケーションを実現するために必須の機能について、その具体化に関する基礎的な研究を行った。本研究では、特に、視聴者の嗜好の発見と嗜好の分析に焦点を当て、生体信号を利用した、非拘束で自然なユーザ嗜好情報の効率的な取得手法について研究を行った。具体的には、映像コンテンツ視聴中の視聴者の瞳孔径情報と、背景脳波観測による視聴者の情動情報を利用して、映像コンテンツのどの部分に視聴者がどのような興味を持ったのかについて分析する手法について研究した。実験の結果、単位時間における視聴者の平均瞳孔径及び瞳孔径変化の周波数成分と、背景脳波の特定の周波数成分電力間に強い相関関係があることが分った。即ち、これらの情報を利用することにより、視聴者の映像コンテンツに対する興味内容を具体的に分析できる可能性が高いことが示唆された。今後は、本手法を更に推し進め、視聴者の具体的な嗜好の分析技術を確立すると共に、映像コンテンツの有用性をユーザ毎に多角的に評価・分析し、時々刻々と変化するユーザ要求を満たす映像コンテンツ推薦方式の研究につなげていく予定である。

  • インターネットにおけるコンテンツ許諾状態の推定・判別手法に関する研究

    本研究は、ディジタルコンテンツの適正な権利許諾環境を構築するための手法として、任意のWebサイト上のコンテンツを対象に、それらの違法流通の可能性を、誰でも推定・判別できる許諾検査手法、あるいは違法流通性検査手法を確立することを目的とする。インターネット等の公衆ネットワーク上では、必ずしも許諾条件が明示されているコンテンツばかりではない。ディジタルコンテンツの流通環境では、権利者が明確で権利許諾情報が付与されているコンテンツの許諾情報の開示だけでなく、権利者が不明で権利許諾に関する情報を持たないコンテンツについても、システムが許諾の有無や違法流通の可能性を推定し、利用者がそれを確認できる手段を提供することが、利用者に安心で安全なコンテンツの利活用環境の構築に繋がる。つまり、安心してコンテンツを利活用したいと考える誰もが、任意のWebサイト上で流通するコンテンツに対して汎用的に適用できる許諾状態推定・判別手法を明らかにすることが求められている。以上から、一年間の本特定課題研究においては、この課題に取り組むための基礎的研究として、Web上のコンテンツに対し、汎用的に適用できる検査手法を明かにすることに取り組んだ。具体的には、システムの基本設計を行うとともに、許諾状態の推定・判別に用いる情報を登録管理する権利情報データベースの基本構造について検討を行った。その結果、判別に利用できる情報は多岐に渡ることから、一般的には、高次元情報における孤立値あるいは異常値の判別手法を用いる必要があることが分かった。そのため、汎用アルゴリズムとしての高次元情報における孤立値あるいは異常値の検出アルゴリズムについて検討し、一定の精度で検出できるアルゴリズムを開発した。一方、このアルゴリズムを適用するに当たり、コンテンツ情報をどのように数値化するかについては課題を残している。

  • コンテンツ構造を考慮した多様な権利管理のための権利記述と制御方式に関する研究

    今日のディジタルコンテンツ流通環境では、一般利用者を含む誰もが、コンテンツの制作・発信・共有・二次利用等を行えるようになってきた。これに伴い、安心安全にコンテンツを利活用して流通させるため、権利許諾処理条件を明確にして、円滑なコンテンツ流通を促す検討が進められている。しかしながら、コンテンツの二次利用に焦点を当てると、映像コンテンツや3Dコンテンツ等では様々な視聴効果等の制御が可能であることから、コンテンツ構造を考慮しなければ矛盾した権利記述や無効な権利記述になる可能性がある。例えば、ディジタルコンテンツの視聴及び改編・改変操作は、コンテンツのデータそのものに対する行為とコンテンツの構造に対する行為とに分けられることから、それぞれに対する権利記述が必要となる。また、このような権利許諾管理を実現することで、DRMにおいて曖昧であった原著作者の権利の所在と二次著作者の権利の所在を明確にした権利継承も実現できる可能性がある。例えば、上映された映画をDVD販売する際にはチャプタ情報が付けられているが、これは元の映画には付随していなかったコンテンツの構造情報であり、これを付加したことでスキップなどの視聴操作が可能となる。その権利が映画の著作権者によって当初から意図されていたものであるかは一般的には明らかではないが、コンテンツ構造情報に対する新しい権利として分離記述して許諾管理をすれば、権利の所在を明確化することが可能となる。以上から、本研究では、コンテンツ構造に着目し、多種多様な視聴及び改編・改変行為に対して、明確でかつ無矛盾な権利許諾管理手法及び二次コンテンツ作成に伴う権利継承処理手法を明らかにすることを主眼として、必要な技術の確立とその検証を行うことを目的とした。具体的には、(1) 「データ」「構造」「制御」「表示」の4機能からなるコンテンツモデルの確立、(2) 多種多様な利用行為と上記コンテンツモデルの4機能の関係を利用した許諾管理とコンテンツ制作のための編集履歴管理を実現する権利管理方式の明確化、(3) 上記コンテンツモデルの4機能に対する許諾条件を矛盾なく記述するための必要語彙と記述表現形式の明確化、について検討を行った。そして、これらに関する2009年度の研究成果は、下記の2つの学会発表によって公表した。今後の課題としては、プロトタイプシステムの作成を通して、機能面と実用性の観点から評価を行うことが残されている。

  • マルチメディアシナリオ情報交換のための汎用マルチメディア表現方式に関する研究

    マルチメディアシナリオを交換するための汎用記述表現方式としては、開放的で相互運用性を保証し、且つ、国際的に認知された方式が望ましい。この条件に合致するものは、1998年2月にW3C (World Wide Web Consortium) によって勧告されたXML (Extensible Markup Language) が最もふさわしいと考えられる。XMLを利用して、マルチメディアシナリオの汎用記述を行う際には、基本となるフレームワークをDTD (Document Type Definition) あるいはXMLSchemaで定義を行い、様々なマルチメディアに関連する表現記述をXML語彙として、XML Namespaceを利用して表現する方式が一般的である。このようなフレームワークとXML語彙として、W3CではSMIL (Synchronized Multimedia Integration Language) を2001年8月に勧告化した。SMILは、ある意味、全てのマルチメディアシナリオ規定のスーパーセットといえる内容になっており、その応用について各方面で検討がなされている。しかしながら、実用的なアプリケーションを記述するためには、その記述量が膨大になり、また、様々な制作者間での協調作業が重要となる。そこで、分散的なネットワーク環境において、XML記述されたマルチメディアシナリオの効率的な編集作業を支援するためのシステムアーキテクチャを整理し、実装し、そして評価することでその有効性を確認した。具体的には、IETF (Internet Engineering Task Force) によって検討と標準化作業が進められているWebDAV (Web-based Distributed Authoring and Versioning) を拡張し、XMLインスタンス木における各ノード情報を複数の人間で同時に編集できるように権利を管理し、更に、それらの版の更新情報も管理出来るようなシステムの提案を行った。本システムはプロトタイプであるため、現時点では汎用的なDTDの取り込み等には対処できない。今後の課題として、更なる汎用化と様々なXML語彙に対する柔軟性をどのようにシステム的に実現するかを検討しなければならない。

  • 通信・放送・コンピュータを融合するマルチメディア表現形式とその符号化方式の研究

     通信・放送・コンピュータを融合するマルチメディア表現形式を巡り、1999年度は日本にとって大きな転換が生じた年であった。というのも、1999年7月の郵政省電気通信技術審議会において、2000年から始まるディジタル衛星データ放送の方式として、それまで第1候補であったISO/IEC 13522-5(MHEG-5)の採用を見送り、新たにXMLベースのデータ放送方式を日本独自の方式として作成することに決まったためである。この決定を受け、実際の方式の策定作業は(社)電波産業会にワーキンググループが設置され、そこで行われることとなった。このため、本研究課題においても、この新しいデータ放送方式であるBML(Broadcast Markup Language)方式も検討することとし、実際にシステムを構築した上で、各種のマルチメディア表現方式との得失の比較についても検討を加えることとした。 BMLの規格書は1999年10月に発行されたが、その規格を元に、ディジタルデータ放送方式を受信するプロトタイプシステムをPC上で作成した。言語はJavaを利用し、プラットフォームに依存しないようなソフトウェア構成を検討し、最終的に満足するシステムを構築することができた。特に課題となった点は、Javaのグラフィックス描画に関する部分であり、これに関して高速の描画アルゴリズムを考案し、実用的な性能を得た。本システムを様々なデータを与えることで評価した結果、BML規格の欠点並びに不備な点を多々発見し、それらをBMLワーキンググループのメンバに伝えることで、フィードバックを行った。その結果、データ放送方式の規格としてBMLは一応の完成度を持つことができたと考えている。BML規格の最大の問題点は、インターネットの諸規格と完全に互換性が取れていないことであり、このことは、通信・放送・コンピュータの融合を考える上ではかなり致命的な問題であると考える。今後は、このプロトタイプを更に整備し、次の研究のための土台として利用し、先に述べた点を更に検討していく必要があると考えている。 一方、ISO/IEC JTC1/SC29/WG12においては、ISO/IEC 13522-5のXML表現方式を提案し、この提案は最終的にISO/IEC 13522-8規格(MHEG-XML)のベースとして採用された。ISO/IEC 13522-8によれば、いわゆるMHEG-5アプリケーションをXML形式で表現することができ、インターネットの諸規格との親和性もよい。現在、ISO/IEC 13522-8は標準化の最終段階にさしかかっており、2000年度内に正式に国際標準として発行の見込みである。 以上のように、本研究課題に対して1999年度は、BML方式の実装と検討とISO/IEC 13522-8の標準化活動を通して、通信・放送・コンピュータを融合するマルチメディア表現形式についての第1段階の検討を終えたと考えている。今後は、本研究課題で得た成果を更に発展させ、究極の目標であるSuper Multimedia Integration Architectureに関する研究を進めていく。
