    In this work, 4-layered SiO2/Bi2Te3/SiO2/Cu film structures were designed and fabricated and the optical properties investigated in the wavelength region of 250-1200 nm for their promising applications for direct solar-thermal-electric conversion. A typical 4-layered film sample with the structure SiO2 (66.6 nm)/Bi2Te3 (7.0 nm)/SiO2 (67.0 nm)/Cu (>100.0 nm) was deposited on a Si or K9-glass substrate by magnetron sputtering. The experimental results agree well with the simulated ones showing an average optical absorption of 96.5%, except in the shorter wavelength region, 250-500 nm, which demonstrates the superior absorption property of the 4-layered film due to the randomly rough surface of the Cu layer resulting from the higher deposition power. The high reflectance of the film structure in the long wavelength region of 2-20 mu m will result in a low thermal emittance, 0.064 at 600 K. The simpler 4-layered structure with the thermoelectric Bi2Te3 used as the absorption layer may provide a straightforward way to obtain solar-thermal-electric conversion more efficiently through future study.

  • Non-native English speakers' speech correction, based on domain focused document

    With the increase in exchange programs, many international students worldwide can face communication problems. Dur-ing lectures, usually English language is used for the commu-nication between students and teachers. However both sides, not necessarily being native speakers of English, may misun-derstand each other. In this paper we propose a method for correction of non-native English speakers' speech, based on the domain focused electronic document. The method relies on the results of speech recognition (SR) software, and uses them altogether with the document. Our approach consists of three steps. Firstly, document analysis in the preprocess-ing phase. Secondly, finding the document part correspond-ing to sentence from SR software, realised using the Hidden Markov Model (HMM) based method. Finally, the correc-tion by calculating the score for each of candidate sentences, based on the result of SR software. The probability score combines keywords comparison, BM25F method and HMM based method scores. Highest score candidate is chosen as replacement.

  • A passive means based privacy protection method for the perceptual layer of IoTs

    Privacy protection in Internet of Things (IoTs) has long been the topic of extensive research in the last decade. The perceptual layer of IoTs suffers the most significant privacy disclosing because of the limitation of hardware resources. Data encryption and anonymization are the most common methods to protect private information for the perceptual layer of IoTs. However, these efforts are ineffective to avoid privacy disclosure if the communication environment exists unknown wireless nodes which could be malicious devices. Therefore, in this paper we derive an innovative and passive method called Horizontal Hierarchy Slicing (HHS) method to detect the existence of unknown wireless devices which could result negative means to the privacy. PAM algorithm is used to cluster the HHS curves and analyze whether unknown wireless devices exist in the communicating environment. Link Quality Indicator data are utilized as the network parameters in this paper. The simulation results show their effectiveness in privacy protection.

    Currently, expectations from Internet of Things (IoT) are extremely high worldwide. However, mechanical engineers working on product design processes do not always benefit. This paper utilizes the up-to-date IoT-enabled commercial product lifecycle management (PLM) system to examine the effectiveness of IoT value for mechanical engineers. Moreover, it discusses the maturity model for digital engineering for the new era of WT. Furthermore, this paper introduces significant initiatives such as a PLM functionality connected to everything, monitoring of field data for getting back to design process, and virtual 3D data and real field data superposition. This paper concludes that there is high potential to use IoT technology for mechanical engineers from the perspective of quality and reliability design innovations.

  • Rubbing Detection of Sliding Bearings in Early Stage by Frequency Modulation Analysis

    It is important in maintenance to detect rubbing of sliding bearings in the early stage. An experiment on mild rubbing conditions was conducted, and the changes in vibration were examined. Importantly, a newly found fact is that peaks in the spectral domain with respect to the rotational period occur as a result of rubbing. Consequently, cepstrum analysis was shown to be effective for the detection of rubbing in the early stage. A device that can follow the level of the quefrency was developed based upon this idea. Utilizing the device is a highly efficient way to monitor the condition of a sliding bearing.

  • Facial expression recognition based upon human cognitive regions

    The discovery of associations between local facial features and image features is one of the current challenges in regard to facial expression recognition. To mitigate the negative effects caused by individual differences, this paper proposes an approach based upon human cognition which can recognize facial expression from six human cognitive regions. The proposed approach exploits descriptions of Local Binary Pattern (LBP) to extract the holistic facial area and establishes a pseudo 3D face model for segmenting the human face into six cognitive regions. Finally, we synthesize change trends and volume distribution of LBP of the six regions to recognize the expressions. Unlike many previous studies, this approach recognizes the expressions from regional features instead of holistic facial features. Further, the regional features are more robust than interesting point-based features because of idiosyncrasy of individuals. To validate our proposed approach, we conducted experiments on the Extended Cohn-Kanade (CK+) facial expression database. The results demonstrate that the proposed approach can effectively segment face into specific areas and recognize facial expressions.

    Nowadays with time series accounting for an increasingly large fraction of world's supply of data, there has been an explosion of interest in mining time series data. This paper proposes an approach of creating a new data structure automatically, for multivariate time series classifi cation. For more accurate and comprehensive classifi cation, induction of valuable rules named soft discretisation decision forest is illustrated comparing with other machine learning methods such as traditional neural network, SVM and nearest neighbour algorithms. Moreover, some real time series instances from the training dataset will be selected as class dedicated patterns. And a splitting stage using fuzzy theory is prepared for comparing attributes of time series. The experiment of a slight rubbing condition conducted and the change of vibration was examined. Importantly, the fact newly found is that peaks in spectrum domain with rotational frequency period take place due to rubbing. As a result, the Cepstrum analysis was proved to be effective for the detection of rubbing in its early stage. A device, which can follow the level of quefrency, was developed based upon this idea, so that utilizing the device is highly efficient to monitor the sliding bearing condition.

  • Diagnosis of Extremely Low-Speed Rolling-Element Bearing Using AE Envelope Waveform

    Most low-speed rotating equipments are large and important. Therefore, a plant will suffer substantial losses if the operation of such equipments stops because of any damage to their rolling-element bearings. This paper discusses a diagnostic method for rolling-element bearings in rotating equipments with extremely low speeds of 100rpm or less and further, it proposes a diagnostic method based on acoustic emission (AE) envelope waveform of 100kHz to 1MHz frequency. Abnormality diagnosis was performed even for a rotation number of 1rpm by improving the signal-to-noise (S/N) ratio by carrying out further amplification after envelope waveform processing and AE waveform amplification. Furthermore, a method for removing electric noises and an abnormality-diagnosis method based on an event-counting method in the case of extremely low-speed rotation are proposed. Further, we are manufacturing a diagnostic instrument based on this diagnostic method, and we are performing abnormality diagnosis and monitoring of on-site conditions.

  • Exploring the role of drama and storyboarding in learner-centered scenario generation

    Involving learners at an early stage of learning environment design enables the researchers to base a system around their needs. This approach is particularly advantageous when designing innovative system that encourages the experiential and entertaining activities of learners in areas such as social learning. The paper describes the learner centered design process which was used to develop a visual representation for interactive narrative in Shimpai Muyou! focusing on the difficult and often devastating problem of bullying in schools. Early consultation with our users through the use of drama and electronic storyboarding techniques ensured that the representations we proposed could be comprehended and subsequently generated by children in the target age group. A rich picture of the process and effects of children involvement in the creation of believable synthetic characters and engaging scenarios has been presented that has revealed several important design implications. © 2011 - IOS Press and the authors.

    Most existing query-biased summarization methods generate the summary using extracted sentences based on similarity measure between all sentences in documents and the query. If there are plural sentences having high similarity to the query in the documents, however, these methods cannot decide from which sentence the summary should be made. This paper proposes an algorithm considering difference of paragraphs, adopting new indicator that shows the difference between one paragraph and the others. In a word space composed of all words in the target document, the algorithm determines the axis that maximizes the difference when a paragraph and the others are projected onto it. There are many combinations of a paragraph and a set of other paragraphs. For each combination, the above-mentioned axis that maximizes the difference and gives a conformity degree to the given query is calculated. With these conformities, the algorithm decides one paragraph for generating the summary. To obtain the axes, topic distinctiveness factor analysis is applied.     Ambiguous concepts play an important role in the reasoning that appears in our mental activity. Many expert systems have been developed as models of such kind of activities recently, but most of them cannot deal with ambiguous expression directly. This leads to difficulty of the knowledgebase construction and the input of ambiguous facts.<br>So we propose the knowledge representation dealing with ambiguous concepts and top-down reasoning method using it. We're able to treat ambiguous knowledge directly and get a satisfactory conclusion from the fewest facts by this proposed method.<br>The efficiency of this method is demonstrated via an examble.

    This paper deals with design of IFIR (Integrated Finite Impulse Response) control systems. Considering recent development of the CAD (Computer Aided Design) for control systems such kind of an algorithm is efficient that has the necessity of checking the result of design but requires little amount of computational time.<br>The proposed algorithm in this paper has such a desired characteristic.<br>The technique is to minimize the error of approximation that is, least mean square approximation. This design technique requires considerably a little calculation and is competent to design control system changing the desired model and the order of the controller. The extension of this algorithm to multivariable system is also provided. The efficiency of this algorithm is demonstrated via some examples.

    Supposing the educational environment where users, both instructor and learners, and robot coexist, we propose an idea of cognitive space sharing to analyze their interaction. The techniques developed and investigated are concerning speech recognition and consensus building analysis. The speech recognition technique here has an advantage that it works well under the environment where users are not native speakers of English but the lecture should be done in English. This happens quite frequently because of recent globalization in classrooms. On the other hand, the latter technique is for consensus building analysis using entropy. Entropy is a measure of the system's disorder and is available for measuring the degree of convergence of interaction. The basic idea is: the less the entropy is, the closer the discussion is approaching convergence. The developed techniques were applied to actual workshops which invited five to ten students

    The following five basic subsystems are constructed in this research.1. 「Knowledge acquisition supporting system」 : This system is used as a tool for knowledge acquisition. It has functions to resister, add and revise the knowledge in easy format to use.2. 「Identification supporting system」 : As the supporting system for identification of discrete systems, selection of estimation method, model order and sampling time are available. This system has a special point in including the evaluation of the identification results.3. 「CAD system for control」 : This system is intended to support the design of MIMO control system. In this system many graphic functions are practically used. It has a special point in including robust design techniques.4. 「Supervisor of adaptive control system」 : the global convergence of STC is discussed and a new STC algorithm is derived. The selection rules of design parameters are made clear by many simulations.5. 「Control system design supporting system by knowledge base」 : For the controlled objects which are difficult to express in mathematical formulation, a knowledge base control system design supporting system is constructed. It is a learning system which acquires the knowledge for control in the process of operation. The construction of the controller, the representation of knowledge and learning are based in fuzzy theory.These five systems are connected organically and applied to support the design of control systems according to the priori information of the object

A high optical absorption average of &gt; 98% is achieved in the broad spectral range of 250-1200 nm with experiment results, in good agreement with our simulated results. The samples have a typical layered structure of: SiO2(57.3 nm)/Ti(5.7 nm)/SiO2(67.1 nm)/Ti(11.6 nm)/SiO2(51.4 nm)/Cu(&gt; 100 nm), deposited on optically polished Si or K9-glass substrates by magnetron sputtering. The sample of the 6-layered metal/dielectric film structure has an AM1.5G solar absorptance of 95.5% with the features of low thermal emittance of 0.136 at 700K and good thermal stability, and will be potentially suitable for practical application in high-efficiency solar absorber devices in many fields.     The discovery of associations between local facial features and image features is one of the current challenges in regard to facial expression recognition. To mitigate the negative effects caused by individual differences, this paper proposes an approach based upon human cognition which can recognize facial expression from six human cognitive regions. The proposed approach exploits descriptions of Local Binary Pattern (LBP) to extract the holistic facial area and establishes a pseudo 3D face model for segmenting the human face into six cognitive regions. Finally, we synthesize change trends and volume distribution of LBP of the six regions to recognize the expressions. Unlike many previous studies, this approach recognizes the expressions from regional features instead of holistic facial features. Further, the regional features are more robust than interesting point-based features because of idiosyncrasy of individuals. To validate our proposed approach, we conducted experiments on the Extended CohnKanade (CK+) facial expression database. The results demonstrate that the proposed approach can effectively segment face into specific areas and recognize facial expressions.

    Activity recognition, which has emerged as a pivotal research topic in pervasive sensing over the last several years, utilizes a collection of data from sensors to capture human behavior, detect anomalies and provide warning or guidance information. This paper presents an approach to explore appropriate clusters in subspace for human activity recognition. The approach includes two major phases: discovery of human activity (extraction of human behavior patterns and generation of human activity clusters), and recognition of human activity (application of similarity function to recognize activities). Different from many existing works, the proposed approach applies a subspace clustering based algorithm to generate clusters of human activity. This approach aims to accumulate human activity by approximating the generated clusters to the activity from a conceptual human perspective. The experiments were implemented using radio-frequency identification (RFID) based systems. The results show that the proposed approach is effective in improving the accuracy of both activity discovery and activity recognition. © 2013 The Institute of Electrical Engineers of Japan.

This paper presents an approach to explore appropriate clusters in subspace for human activity recognition. The approach includes two major phases: discovery of human activity (extraction of human behavior patterns and generation of human activity clusters), and recognition of human activity (application of similarity function to recognize activities). Different from many existing works, the proposed approach applies a subspace clustering based algorithm to generate clusters of human activity. This approach aims to accumulate human activity by approximating the generated clusters to the activity from a conceptual human perspective. The experiments were implemented using radio-frequency identification (RFID) based systems. The results show that the proposed approach is effective in improving the accuracy of both activity discovery and activity recognition. © 2013 The Institute of Electrical Engineers of Japan.

    Involving learners at an early stage of learning environment design enables the researchers to base a system around their needs. This approach is particularly advantageous when designing innovative system that encourages the experiential and entertaining activities of learners in areas such as social learning. The paper describes the learner centered design process which was used to develop a visual representation for interactive narrative in Shimpai Muyou! focusing on the difficult and often devastating problem of bullying in schools. Early consultation with our users through the use of drama and electronic storyboarding techniques ensured that the representations we proposed could be comprehended and subsequently generated by children in the target age group. A rich picture of the process and effects of children involvement in the creation of believable synthetic characters and engaging scenarios has been presented that has revealed several important design implications. © 2011 - IOS Press and the authors.

    さまざまな意見が交わされ次第にひとつの合意点に達していくという合意形成過程を研究対象とする。そこでは、ある発言内容に対してレスポンスがあり、これが繰り返される。どの発言が全体に大きな影響を与えたか、各人の他の意見に対する支持状態がある発言によってどのように変化したかを、ベイズ推定を用いて解析するための工学的モデルをすでに提案した。本年度は、発言者が発する音声情報から感情抽出を行い、支持状態解析の精度を向上させる手法を、実際に特定のロボット上で動作するソフトウェアモジュールとして実現することを目標に研究を進めた。議論で述べられた発言の集合をCとすると、議論への参加者それぞれについて、支持する発言の組み合わせはCのべき集合で表される。すなわち、ある人の議論中に現れる発言に対する支持状態は、Cのべき集合の各要素に確率を付した表(テーブル)とみなすことができる。これより、合意形成過程の工学的解析を、議論中に現れる発言内容を観測し、この確率を更新して、各参加者の支持状態を推定することであると定義した。ここで、発言とは「ある支持状態のもとで対象発言に対して「レスポンス」(肯定的、否定的あるいは不明)を返し、つぎの支持状態へと遷移すること」とすると、音声情報としての「レスポンス」に含まれる話者の情動情報を利用することが考えられる。議論の収束具合は、情報理論でよく知られるエントロピーを求めることにより測ることができる。音声情報から話者の情動(喜び、恐れ、中立、怒り、悲しみ、嫌悪)認識を行う手法はすでに提案されているが、我々の過去の研究によれば、このような話者の情動情報と発言の極性との間には深い相関があることが示されている。このことから、発言があるたびに支持状態の確率を更新することが可能となる。本モデルおよび支持状態推定手法を人間とロボットのインタラクションを通じて評価を行った結果、つぎのことがわかった。(1)人間複数人とロボット1体のインタラクションの場合、1:1のインタラクションの単なる集合とみなせる場合においては、精度よく支持状態が推定できる。(2)その場合でも、一定量の発言ボリュームが必要である。(3)ベイズ推定をベースとする支持状態推定手法では、更新(収束)速度に問題がある。(4)人間複数人がときには同時に重なりをもって発言するようなケースにはまだ対応できない。(5)言語、音声情報以外の情報にも注目して多人数インタラクションに取り組むことが有望である。今後、主に(3)(4)への対処法について検討していく。

  • 感情分析と確率的手法による合意形成過程の解析

    さまざまな意見が交わされ次第にひとつの合意点に達していくという過程は、会議やディスカッションとして頻繁に見受けられる。また近年では、電子掲示板、ソーシャルネットワーク等を利用した情報交換や電子的手段によるパブリックオピニオンの形成も珍しくない。ある発言内容に対してレスポンスがあり、これが繰り返されることにより最終的に合意に達するという議論プロセスを、ここでは合意形成過程と呼ぶ。合意形成過程において、どの発言が全体に大きな影響を与えたか、各人の他の意見に対する支持状態が、ある発言によってどのように変化したかを、ベイズ推定を用いて求める手法について検討することが、本研究の目的である。その際、音声情報を利用できる場合には、そこから話者の感情を抽出しその立場を推定することにより、支持状態解析の精度を向上させる。以上のような目的のもと、議論により次第に合意形成へと導かれる過程を工学的に解析するためのモデルの構築から検討を開始した。議論で述べられた発言の集合をCとすると、議論への参加者それぞれについて、支持する発言の組み合わせはCのべき集合で表される。すなわち、ある人の議論中に現れる発言に対する支持状態は、Cのべき集合の各要素に確率を付した表とみなすことができる。これより、合意形成過程の工学的解析を、議論中に現れる発言内容を観測し、この確率を更新して、各参加者の支持状態を推定することである定義した。ここで、発言とは「ある支持状態のもとで対象発言に対して「レスポンス」(肯定的、否定的あるいは不明)を返し、つぎの支持状態へと遷移すること」と定義すると、音声情報としての「レスポンス」に含まれる話者の情動情報を利用することが考えられる。音声情報から話者の情動(喜び、恐れ、中立、怒り、悲しみ、嫌悪)認識を行う手法はすでに提案されている。さらに我々のχ2検定に基づく実験結果によれば、「喜び、恐れ、中立」と肯定的な立場、「怒り、悲しみ、嫌悪」と否定的な立場とは一定の相関がある。これらを根拠に、テキスト処理による支持状態遷移と音声情報からの感情分析とを連携させ、発言があるたびに支持状態の確率を更新するアルゴリズムを提案した。また、議論とともにある発言者が自分の意見をより強固なものとしていく場合、他の参加者からの意見を受け、自分の意見を変更する場合等について、シミュレーションにより、提案アルゴリズムの妥当性を評価した。今後、実際の議論の音声記録を用い、本アルゴリズムの評価を行っていくことが必要である。

  • 電子的手段を用いた合意形成プロセスの解析手法に関する研究

     本研究では、合意形成がなされていく過程を情報処理技術によって解析することを目指した。各発言者が他のどの発言を支持しているかを推定し、議論全体が収束していく様子を、支持状態のエントロピーを計算することによって捉えることが基本的な考え方である。そのためには、発言が肯定的か否定的か(これに「どちらでもない」を加えて、支持状態と呼ぶ)を判別することがまず必要となる。これをテキスト情報から行うことと並行して、音声情報も利用することについて検討した。 従来、音声データを対象とした情動分析(emotional analysis)に関する研究は多くなされてきた。しかし、情動と発言間の支持状態とを結びつける根拠が存在しなかった。合意形成過程解析に必要な、支持状態を得るために、実験を行った。またこの過程で、他の研究者にも利用可能な、情動音声コーパスと対話音声コーパスを構築した。 得られた主な結果はつぎの通りである。(1)9名の話者による全1080サンプルから成る情動音声コーパスが得られた。含まれる情動は喜び、怒り、悲しみ、嫌悪、恐れ、中立の6種類であり、この主観判別率は93.7%である。(2)328サンプルから成る対話音声コーパスを得た。主観判別率は93.0%である。(3)音声の特徴量としてMFCC(Mel-Frequency Cepstrum Coefficients)を用い、情動認識を隠れマルコフモデルによって行ったところ、平均正解率79.8%を得た。(4)音声から得られる情動と支持状態との間に相互関連性があるか否かを、カイ2乗検定によって調べた。その結果、「喜び、恐れ、中立と肯定的支持」「嫌悪、怒りと否定的支持」「悲しみとどちらでもない」が有意な依存関係があることを確認した。 これらの成果は、今後ますます重要になると思われる、ソーシャルオピニオンの分析、人とコンピュータとの対話インタフェース開発、多人数インタラクション方式の開発等に寄与すると考える。

  • 生産情報コミュニティにおける認知面を考慮した人間・ソフトウェア間インタラクション

    設備管理を対象に,分散して存在する複数のデータベースに対してユーザが行う操作から,自動的に情報の収集・統合を行うシステムを開発した。XMLデータベースをバックエンドにもち,XMLTによってXHTMLに変換してユーザに表形式で内容を表示している場合を想定した。これは,複数のWebサイトから表形式のデータを統合することに相当する。ユーザの操作履歴を参照して,複数の表から所望の表を得るために新たにXSLT文書が生成される。ひとたび生成されると,元のXML文書の内容が更新されても正しく表の統合が行われなければならない。したがって,生成されるXSLT文書は,ユーザの表に対する操作を汎化したテンプレートである。ユーザ操作の汎化には,操作履歴から帰納学習により汎化されたルールを抽出する方法と,ユーザがタスクを遂行する領域で一般的と考えられる基本操作集合を定義しておき,その組み合わせで操作履歴を説明する演繹学習による方法の2つが考えられる。本研究では,後者を採用した。

  • プラントエンジニアのためのバーチャルコミュニティ構築プロジェクト

    生産現場を支えるプラントエンジニアが,互いに情報を共有あるいは交換するための枠組みを,情報技術を駆使することにより実現することが本研究の目的である。今年度は,設備診断や製造計画といった具体的な分野を特定せず,Webブラウザを通して閲覧できる情報の収集・統合を可能とする一般的なツールを開発した。背後にリレーショナルデータベース(RDB)が存在し,そこに格納されているデータがXML形式に変換され,さらにXSLTとの組み合わせでホームページとして閲覧できる状況を考える。データベースの更新により,生成されるXMLドキュメントも時々刻々変化し,それがXSLTドキュメントに記述されているテンプレートにより最新のホームページへと変換される。提案するツールは,このような複数の動的なホームページから必要な箇所を抜き出し,統合して1つのホームページを作成するためのテンプレート群の半自動生成を支援する。主な手順は,つぎの通り。(1)元ページからの情報抽出。XMLドキュメントからXHTMLへの変換規則,すなわちXSLTドキュメントを手掛かりに,元ページはいくつかの部品に分割され,表示される。この中から必要なものが選択され,プリミティブと呼ばれる。(2)ユーザはプリミティブに比較演算子および論理演算子を用いた制約を課し,さらに必要な部分だけを抽出する。これはコンポーネントと呼ばれる。(3)コンポーネントのうち表形式のものは,分割,結合,行・列の削除・交換,転置等の操作を施すことにより,新たなコンポーネント(表形式)作成のために用いることができる。これは,ユーザが所望の表(の一部)を提示することにより,自動的に行われる。(4)こうして得られたコンポーネントをページ上に配置する。以上の手順に従うホームページの統合化は一度行えばよく,RDBが更新されても常にそれに応じたページが得られる。
