    This paper is the result of the fieldwork performed for several associations of people who joins "traditional" city festival. The purpose of investigation was, firstly, how the people operate the festival and reproduce its associations under the community changing, and secondly, to clarify the relationship among the individuals with various senses of values and the festival itself, community life and its communality. Attention was given specially to traditional norms inherited by the association and conflict attendant on replacement of their positions within the association, during the progress of the investigation. The conflict can be visualized as a problem involving membership and constructing identity of participants respectively under the difficulties to practice the festival. Then, the present condition of the association was considered from framework of "community of practice" having applying the Legitimate Peripheral Participation (LPP) theory and related researches for analysis. As a result, a) the character of " Wakasyu (main young members in the festival associations) identity" and its construction process, b) the aspect of conflict accompanying with replacement of a participants, c) the participant's selecting process and closing nature, d) the correlation of multilayer identity of each participant with the actual local life, e) the separation of the "afterimage of traditional local communality" among the membership and reality of the local life, etc. became clear. Moreover, the "future" of the festival in a turning point and its association of people was considered together with its problems and foresight.

    Four Kyo-style climbing kilns were measured using SfM-MVS technology, and detailed records were made. We were also able to record the inside of the kilns, including the Dogi-ma and the smoke chamber, which are usually inaccessible, and accumulated know-how on the measurement method. In addition, ethno-archaeological and architectural studies were conducted on the Ishiguro Munemaro Kiln and Dosen Chemical Pottery, a survey and digital archive of Dosen Chemical Pottery and other modern and contemporary documents, an oral history survey of ordinary potters and paulownia box makers, and a comprehensive survey of people involved with Kyoto pottery on Gojozaka, to reveal the dynamics of people around the climbing kiln. The study used a variety of historical materials to clarify the dynamics of the people who lived around the climbing kilns.

    The Japanese university and the university of China, South Korea, and Vietnam became a pair and each pair has performed the interchange classes. We have investigated the material and method of the class for cross-cultural understanding between groups. We confirmed that we could use movies, stories by illustration, the norm as a material of interchange class. Moreover, in order to examine the process to cross-cultural understanding, it was shown that terms, such as "a bent mirror set against each other", " opposition of structure", "connection of a dialog and interception", and an "affective reaction", are effective.

    1. Collecting data and Analyses:
    (1) All investigators collected and referenced published matters and studies deal with the archaeological data such 'essentialism' or 'nationalism', additionally, analyzed the discourses of the past in their fields.
    (2) TANIGAWA and TAKANASHI, O (Amami museum) organized their Nansei Shoto area materials, and revealed many archaeological problems caused by the boundary recognitions of past researchers. (3) SASAKI, M (Waseda University Honjo Senior High School) connected with korean experts, and clarified Japan-Korea differences of historical perception about past people and technology exchanges. (4) YOGO and OGAWA made firsthand observations about ideas of cultural policies and the status of archaeological sites as tourism resources in southeast asia (Philippines, Indonesia). (5) TERASAKI conducted field surveys in Honduras and Guatemala, As a result, demonstrated the close connection between rights of indigenous peoples and values of cultural heritages.
    2. Workshops:
    The collaboration workshops were held 11 times in Tokyo, Amami-oshima, Fukuoka, and Manila (Philippines). The topic of the workshops were about such as "Afterimage of Wildness-Ideological Magnetic Field on the Past", "Symbol of Indigenous Cultural Heritage/Resource in Central America", "Recent Criticized Points in Japanese Archaeology", "Archaeological methodology and representational activity", "Cultural heritage and Archaeology in Modern Japan", "Differences of Historical Consciousness between Ryukyu and Amami", "Remarkable Transition of JOMON Period Images" and "Reconsideration the Relationship between Modern Philippines Archaeology and National Identity".
    Then investigators analyzed local characteristics and problems in archaeological activities, and make suggestions on how to offer solutions on issues concerning in their fields.

    バリ島カランガスム県で行った1997年度の調査に引き続き、伝統的生業製品としての土器の生産・流通・使用に関する研究を目的として1998年８～９月に行った調査は、東部４県に範囲を拡大した。生産地としては、クルンクン県トジャン村、バンリ県タマンバリ村、ギァニャール県トゥリクッ村・プランサダ村を、また東部４県の市場もその対象とした。　バリ島東部の土器生産　大型品を除く成形技法は、回転成形とタタキが基盤となる。しかしながら、煮沸用甕の胴部をすべて叩き出すジャシイ村に対し、トジャン村・タマンバリ村は、その半ばまで回転成形すること、糸切り技法の存在などが異なる。大型品の成形技法はジャシイ村とプランサダ村で大きな違いがあり、後者がタタキを用いない点は東部において特異である。また後者の粘土紐輪積み技法には、西部との繋がりがうかがえた。焼成技法は、ジャシイ村の野焼きに対して、他県では昇焔式窯を用いている。器形・器種の点では、儀礼用品のみを生産するトジャン・タマンバリ両村の類似性が際立っている。　東部の土器流通　最も東部に位置し他県に比して経済力が低いカランガスム県では、旧王国域全般におよぶネットワークが遺存し、材料採掘者・生産者・中央市場商人・他村の小売商の間で、慣習的に利益が細分化されている。東部４県全体を概観すれば、島中央部に近い県ほど近代的商業形態の浸透により旧来の生業ネットワークがゆらいでいる。流通のみならず村ごとの生産においても、儀礼土器への特化、レンガ生産への転業、観光用土器の創出など、旧来からの生業がもつ諸要素のなかから「戦術」的に選択され、生産地どうしで無意識的に分業化された、超県域的ネットワークへの変容・再編が強まっている。　本調査は99年度も継続予定であり、バリ島全域の生産・流通の状況把握と、その多様性を織りなしている文化的・地理的・歴史的諸条件を明らかにすることが課題である。

  • インドネシアにおける土器づくり村とその技術の調査

    1997年８月、伝統的土器の製作技術と作り手の生業を研究目的として、インドネシア共和国バリ島カランガスム（Karangasem）県西部のジャシィ（Jasi）村において調査を行った。　製作技術　同村の技術的特徴が最も表出するのが、大型水甕（gombang）である。まず粘土を掌で短冊状に伸ばしながら横に接合して作った粘土板を円筒形にし、これを回転台上でタタキ板で叩いて膨らまし、さらに２回の乾燥・タタキ成形工程を経て、肩の張った完成形とする。前半段階の「板作り円筒技法」は東南アジア全域からみて希少な技術で、ジャシィ村においても現在数家族しか保持していない。この失われつつある技術を、記録保存した意義は大きい。焼成技法は野焼きで、乾期で月３回、雨期で月１回焼成する。　価格・流通　旧カランガスム王宮前の中央市場の商人が仲買いし、他村の人は市場から購入する。水甕の価格は、同村でRp.6,000、商人への卸値がRp.10,000、市場ではRp.13,000～15,000ほどである。流通圏は旧カランガスム王国域に相当し、植民地化から100年ほど経つ現在において、隣県の市場の方が近い県境の村におよぶことから、伝統的土器の流通や需要は、経済効率よりおもに文化的な規制力に基づいていると考察された。　土器作り村の生活　同村において土器作りに直接携わるのは女性のみで、多くの家が椰子・バナナ等の栽培、豚・鶏の飼育などの農業を兼ねている。父系制ゆえに女性は婚姻とともに実家を出るが、村内婚も多いようで、他村に嫁いだ者が土器を作ると壊れるとの伝承と相まって、技術は村内で継承される。土器作りにおける強いタブーはなく、祖先祭祀などの準備期間と祭礼日を除いてほぼ毎日作業が行われるが、雨期は生産量が減少する。　本調査は98年度も継続されるが、隣接地域の土器作り村へ調査対象を広げるとともに、環境・食生活・他の生業・価値観などとの関連を一層明確に解明していく予定である。研究成果の発表平成10年３月31日　余語琢磨「研究報告要旨　インドネシア・バリ島の土器作り」『ASIAN LETTER』第２号、東アジアの歴史と文化懇話会平成10年５月　余語琢磨「インドネシア・バリ島の土器作り―伝統的土器の製作技法を中心として―」『土曜考古』第22号、土曜考古研究会
