  • Effect same-sex marriage rulings have on Japanese public opinion

    2024

     View Summary

Usingthe money from the grant, I have conducted two separate surveys on publicopinion for same-sex marriage in Japan. The first survey was conducted inDecember 2024, coinciding with the Fukuoka High Court's ruling on same-sexmarriage on December 13. In the survey, some 1,331 respondents living in theKushu region were recruited through PureSpectrum. The goal of the survey was to see whether respondents' attitudes towards same-sex marriage and sexual minorities were affected by the ruling by comparing respondents who answered the survey before the ruling had occurred and after it had occurred. The resultsof the survey were inconclusive. However, I published a blog post in the ECPR academic blog “The Loop,” presenting the results of this pilot study.
