特定課題制度（学内資金）

  • 実践的コミュニケーション能力育成のための「共通語としての英語」導入の試み

    　英語は母語話者の所有物からすでに「共通語」（ELF: English as a Lingua Franca)化 しているということをOn-demand Internet classや日々の授業で教え、韓国の提携大学とのテレビ会議などで討議させてきた。英語は母語話者のみとのコミュニケーション手段ではないことを実感させ、英語を使う際の萎縮を解いた。　高校までは「一般英語」（English for General Purposes）および「通文化的英語」（English for General Cultures）を教え、大学以降「目的別英語」（English for Specific Purposes）および「文化別英語」（English for Specific Cultures）に焦点化すべきとの観点から各国のGrade 12（高３）英語教科書の語彙・連語・内容を比較検討した。各国とも語彙・連語ではEGPおよびEGCの域内に留まっていて筆者の主張はほぼ実施されている。内容に関しては、マレーシア、ヴェトナムが自国文化発信の手段としても扱っているのに対し、ドイツやオーストリアでは英米文化一辺倒であり、中国もそれに近い。日本や韓国は話題に関しては多岐にわたって均整が取れている。レベル的には日本やインドネシアはやや低い。　教材は母語話者英語に限定せず、教養ある非母語話者の英語も対象にするべきであろう。同時にauthenticityに拘らず、聞き応え、読み応えのあるものを易しく言い換え、書き換えて、学生の知的レベルと言語的レベルのギャップを埋めることが重要である。　本研究は「大学英語教育学会全国大会」（2008年９月12日、本学）での基調講演、韓国応用言語学会大会（2008年12月６日、ソウル国立大学）での基調講演、最終講義（2009年１月27日、本学）などで公表した。また、大学英語教育学会全国大会（2009年9月5日、北海学園大学）、フィリピン言語学会・国際「世界英語」学会大会（10月23日、フィリピン・セブ島）の基調講演で継続発表の予定である。
