Dr. David Lau, CA
Associate Professor, Waseda Business School
Dr. David Lau is an Associate Professor at Waseda Business School and a Chartered Accountant (CA ANZ). He holds a BCom, a BCom (1st Class Honours), and a PhD from New Zealand’s premier institution, the University of Auckland.
Dr. Lau began his academic career at the University of Auckland in 2010, where he primarily taught core undergraduate financial accounting courses and served as Director of the Honours and Masters programmes for the Department of Accounting and Finance. He is also a distinguished member of the Beta Gamma Sigma honor society (University of Auckland Chapter).
Research & Academic Focus
Dr. Lau’s research spans financial accounting, voluntary corporate disclosures, auditing, corporate governance, and finance. His work has been widely published in leading peer-reviewed journals, including: Journal of Corporate Finance, Journal of Banking & Finance, Journal of The Japanese and International Economies, International Journal of Auditing, Meditari Accountancy Research, Accounting Research Journal, and Pacific Accounting Review.
International Engagement
Dr. Lau has long-standing academic ties with Japan. He served as a visiting scholar at Kansai University in 2011 and 2015, an invited scholar in 2017, and a keynote speaker at the Data Science Laboratory (DSLAB) conferences in both 2015 and 2017.
